Andrey Rublev Triumphs Over Taylor Fritz to Secure His Fifth Masters 1000 Final Spot in Madrid
Andrey Rublev defeats Taylor Fritz with a commanding score of 6-4, 6-3, marking his fifth appearance in the Masters 1000 final and his impressive 25th ATP final overall at the Mutua Madrid Open.
This victory brings him one step closer to clinching his second Masters 1000 title, following his triumph in Monte Carlo last year.
At the Mutua Madrid Open, Andrey Rublev defeated Taylor Fritz 6-4, 6-3, to advance to his sixth Masters 1000 final and his historic 25th ATP final overall.
Having won his maiden Masters 1000 title on the clay of Monte Carlo last year, he is now one victory away from his second career crown.
He’s made it to four separate Masters 1000 finals.

Fritz broke early in the first game on Friday, giving the impression that the match may be tighter than expected. However, Rublev broke back quickly to tie the score at one, and after seven consecutive holds, he struck again, breaking at love to end the first set.
After Fritz fought off the first two break points, Rublev converted the third with a huge baseline overhead winner that smacked the baseline. The two were on serve for the first five games of the second set when Rublev struck again, setting up triple break point with Fritz serving at 2-3, 0-40.
After an hour and twelve minutes on the court, Rublev closed it out by serving it out at love. The two held from there till it was all over.
Both players played well in the match; Fritz finished with an even 16 and 20, while Rublev hit 20 winners to 19 unintentional mistakes.
In his on-court interview, Rublev stated, “I started really tight.”
“I missed a few chances and easy shots, but that’s just a part of tennis and the game.” I believed that it was just the beginning when he broke me. I have a lengthy set left. Perhaps he will begin his serve poorly as well. He didn’t serve first on what I believe to be the first three points, so I won two of them, 0–30, and then I broke to tie the match at 1–1. After that, the match remained tied until the finish of the set.
The victor of the second semifinal between Felix Auger-Aliassime and Jiri Lehecka will be Rublev’s next opponent.
Rublev is 4-1 versus Auger-Aliassime, but in their lone encounter of the year, the Canadian was narrowly defeated by the Russian in the Rotterdam second round, 3-6, 7-6 (6), 7-5.
Lehecka is 2-2 against him, having prevailed 6-4, 6-4 in their lone match of the year in the Indian Wells third round.
