Anwar Ali Suspended for 4 Months: AIFF’s Ruling and Mohun Bagan’s ₹12.90 Crore Compensation Explained
Anwar Ali, one of the best defenders in the country and a star of Indian football, has been suspended for four months by the All India Football Federation (AIFF).
His contentious transfer from Mohun Bagan Super Giant to East Bengal, which has generated months of controversy, is the reason behind the decision.
The transfer of Indian defender Anwar Ali from Mohun Bagan Super Giant to East Bengal has generated a lot of discussion over the past few months. Anwar’s four-year loan agreement with Mohun Bagan Super Giant was terminated, and the All India Football Federation (AIFF) has opted to suspend him for four months. Not only that, but for two transfer windows, both his parent club Delhi FC and East Bengal—the team to which he was just loaned—will not be able to sign new players as a result of the Anwar Ali transaction.
“East Bengal and Delhi FC will be subject to two transfer window bans, beginning with the January transfer window, while Anwar Ali will suffer a four-month sports ban. Anwar Ali, Delhi FC, and East Bengal are all have to reimburse Mohun Bagan with a total of Rs 12.90 crores, according to the ruling rendered by the Players’ Statue Committee (PSC) of the AIFF on Tuesday.
Anwar, a key member of the Indian national team’s defense, joined the Blue Tigers in March 2022 and has since participated in 22 games. The team has won the SAFF Championship (2023), the Intercontinental Cup (2023), and the Tri-Nation series (2023).
From U-17 to senior team, the 23-year-old has played for the national team at every age group. He was an essential part of the Indian squad that competed in the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup on home soil.
Anwar progressed via the Minerva Academy’s youth program before becoming well-known in 2017 while participating for the AIFF’s development team. Since 2021, Anwar has participated in 46 games in the Indian Super League.
Anwar is not just one of the best center backs in the nation; he has proven his ability to score goals on several occasions. In addition to his three goals and one assist in 26 games during the previous season, Anwar led Delhi FC in scoring with four goals during the 2021 I-League Qualifiers.
Anwar has four clean sheets, eighteen interceptions, seventeen tackles, and forty-five successful duels in the ISL previous season. During 16 games, there were 19 successful aerial duels, 9 blocks, 67 recoveries, 52 clearances, and 549 successful passes.
