Christopher Nkunku scored the game-winning goal in the closing minutes in a tense match on Saturday at the Vitality Stadium as Chelsea FC overcame AFC Bournemouth by a slim margin of 1-0.
Four minutes remaining, Nkunku, a second-half substitute, scored to give Chelsea the victory. This vital goal was scored following a difficult game in which Chelsea’s performance was by no means convincing. Evanilson’s first-half penalty was saved by Robert Sanchez, and Bournemouth twice struck the woodwork, which was lucky for the Blues.
Four minutes from time, Christopher Nkunku scored the game-winning goal off the bench to help Chelsea defeat Bournemouth 1-0 on Saturday. At the Vitality Stadium, the Blues rode their luck as Robert Sanchez saved an Evanilson penalty in the first half and Bournemouth twice struck the woodwork.
However, Chelsea’s bulging squad’s depth of talent, which was acquired for more than $1 billion ($1.3 billion) in transfer fees, paid out in the end. On his debut after joining from Manchester United on the last day of the transfer window, Jadon Sancho made an impression as a halftime substitute.
Nkunku scored his first Premier League goal of the year with a tidy low finish after spotting Sanchez’s ball. Referee Anthony Taylor had not yet finished his shift when he issued 14 yellow cards, more than the previous record of 12.
The fact that it was a tough game won’t matter to Chelsea, though, as the win moves Enzo Maresca’s team up to seventh place with seven points from their first four games.
Maresca remarked, “You cannot come here and win without getting your shirt dirty,” on his team’s capacity to overcome their disintegration following yet another eventful summer in the transfer market.
After his terrible time at United ended, Sancho was one of ten new additions. But during the second half of the previous season, while on loan at Borussia Dortmund, the England international excelled and helped the German powerhouses go to the Champions League final.
“It’s incredible to be making my Chelsea debut, to start with. I’m really appreciative to be playing again,” Sancho remarked.
“I’ve been working hard for this moment and I’m just happy that I got my chance.”
With record signing Evanilson missing a spot-kick and Ryan Christie hitting the woodwork, it was a case of what could have been for Bournemouth.
The manager of Bournemouth, Andoni Iraola, stated, “We had more everything, more shots, more corners, but at the end what really matters is to score and they did it at the end.”
