American Tennis sensation Coco Gauff defeated Karolina Muchova in straight sets to win her second title of 2024 at the China Open.

On Sunday, Coco Gauff won the coveted China Open title over Karolina Muchova in a resounding straight-set victory. In a quick 76 minutes, the 20-year-old American, who is presently ranked sixth in the world, prevailed 6-1, 6-3 to win her second title of the year and her eighth career overall. The US Open champion from the previous year, Gauff, continued her winning streak from earlier in January in Auckland by showcasing her dominating form in Beijing.

After defeating Karolina Muchova in straight sets on Sunday, Coco Gauff won the China Open, her second championship of the year and seventh overall. In just one hour and sixteen minutes, the 20-year-old American, who won the US Open the year before, easily defeated his opponent 6-1, 6-3 in Beijing.

Following a dismal few months by her usual standards—which included giving up her New York title in the final 16—Gauff adds the China Open victory to her January success in Auckland. After parting ways with Brad Gilbert a month ago, the sixth-ranked Gauff in the Chinese capital, under a new coaching staff, wiped away tears at the conclusion.

It was Gauff’s third consecutive victory over Muchova, who lost ten months of tennis due to a career-threatening wrist injury before making a comeback this summer.

“Seeing you back on the court is wonderful. “I hope we play many more finals because you’re such an amazing player,” Gauff said to her defeated opponent from the Czech Republic.

“It’s incredible to see how well you’ve managed your season after so many injuries,” said Gauff, whose mother was court-side to see her best triumph since the US Open.

Muchova, the 49th-ranked finalist in the history of the renowned WTA 1000 tournament, found it to be one match too far.

Muchova, a two-time US Open semi-finalist and last year’s French Open finalist, remarked, “You kicked my butt.”

Gauff got off to a quick start in the opening set, breaking for a 2-0 lead before holding her own serve the entire way without giving up a point. With almost ten minutes remaining, the young American lead 3-0.

Muchova, 28, hit an ace to get on the board, but Gauff was in the zone and her serve, which has been her biggest weakness lately, was coming through. Against a shell-shocked Muchova, Gauff had three break points in the sixth set, and he converted the first to streak to a 5-1 lead. Gauff earned two set points with her third ace of the game.

For a brief while, she resumed her unsteady serving, but on her third set point, she won the first set in 29 minutes.

Chasing just her second career title, Muchova defeated Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen after eliminating top seed Aryna Sabalenka in the quarterfinals.

At the beginning of the second set, she finally settled in and broke for a 2-0 lead, but Gauff quickly broke back and won easily.
