Dominant Delhi Capitals Secure First Win in WPL 2024: A Comprehensive Match Review

UP Warriorz 119 for 9 (Sehrawat 45, Radha 4-20, Kapp 3-5) lost to Delhi Capitals 123 for 1 (Shafali 64*, Lanning 51) by nine wickets.
In Bengaluru on Monday, the Delhi Capitals defeated the UP Warriorz by nine wickets and secured their first two points in the WPL 2024 with to Marizanne Kapp’s astounding 3 for 5 and Shafali Verma’s undefeated 64. Warriorz lost for the second time in a row after being limited to 119 for 9.
Warriors are destroyed by Kapp’s bizarre magic
Four batsmanship points. One virgin. Five outs. 3 wickets in total. The Capitals’ pace stalwart is off to the best start of the season. Warriorz’s top order was rattled by Kapp, who brought her explosive form from international cricket to the WPL.
Kapp bowled a magnificent swing over, giving up just one run in the opening over. She dismissed Vrinda Dinesh in her second over, a maiden, after the latter attempted a wide outswinger but was caught at deep third.
Tahlia McGrath was removed from the game at the start of her third over when she misplayed a delivery that went past her outside edge and past her stump. Alyssa Healy, the captain of the Warriorz, miscued one to wide mid-off five balls later, and Kapp had her. Shafali played her part, sprinting back to pull off a flawlessly executed catch. Kapp gave the Capitals a strong start by bowling four overs in a row.
Radha takes four as Sehrawat’s 45 Goes in Vain
Warriorz lost wickets at one end from 16 for 3 to 57 for 5 and then 85 for 6. On her 20th birthday, however, Shweta Sehrawat persisted in her resolve. She started slowly and had the advantage of two lives, but she soon got moving. After hitting a slog-sweep for a six off legspinner Minnu Manni, Sehrawat went on to smash three fours off Annabel Sutherland in the 17th over.
After taking two wickets up to that point, Radha Yadav, a left-arm spinner, eventually claimed Sehrawat. Taniya Bhatia stumped her when she attempted to strike a short, wide ball but was utterly unsuccessful.
After dismissing Sophie Ecclestone in the last over, Radha, who skillfully varied her lengths, finished with 4 for 20 wickets.
Warriorz got crushed by the Shafali-Lanning show
At the Chinnaswamy Stadium, reaching a target of 120 won’t be particularly difficult for any team. And the Capitals thought it was their time to raise their net run rate after losing to Mumbai Indians by four wickets in the opening match of the competition. Warriorz were utterly neutralized by Meg Lanning and Shafali’s opening 119-run partnership, which enabled the Capitals to reach the goal in 14.3 overs.
Lanning was content to rotate the strike at first, with Shafali recovering well from his 1 against Mumbai with a fifty off 36 balls.
