Southern Brave 151 for 6 (Wyatt 59, Burns 2-6) lost to London Spirit 153 for 4 (Knight 65*, Redmayne 45) by six wickets.

In an exciting game in The Hundred at Utilita Bowl, London Spirit stunned the defending champions Southern Brave thanks to a batting masterpiece by Heather Knight.

With three deliveries remaining, the England captain led her team to a six-wicket triumph, causing Brave to suffer just its second-ever home loss. Her team was chasing 152 for victory.

After Danni Wyatt reached 59 from 35 balls and overtook Sophia Dunkley to become The Hundred’s all-time top run scorer, the hosts appeared to be headed for victory.

Prior to being run out following a mix-up with Wyatt, fellow England opener Maia Bouchier hit 35 off 21 deliveries, capping a quick opening stand of 57. After launching an offensive against Spirit, Wyatt achieved her sixth half-century in The Hundred and defeated Erin Burns in the process.

Spirit got off to a poor start as Brave’s Georgia Adams (21 from 14) and Chloe Tryon (20 from 13) drove them to 151 for 6. Meg Lanning, making her Hundred debut, dismissed 16-year-old spinner Tilly Corteen-Coleman after she was caught and bowled.

After Georgia Redmayne made 45 from 31, the innings gained some pace. Charli Knott then bowled, giving up three straight boundaries to Knight as Spirit attempted to get back into the game.

Dani Gibson was set to follow Knott’s powerful hit from mid-off, but Knight maintained her composure and beat Adams to the boundary to complete an outstanding triumph.

Hero Meerkat Heather Knight stated: “I turned on the back end switch after attempting to get in. It’s incredibly difficult to defeat the Brave here, so I’m very happy with our performance today.

“We were aware of the good wicket. We missed a couple catches, so they most likely received ten or fifteen too many. Danni Wyatt is really difficult to set fields against; she had a fantastic inning. However, I was aware that we might swiftly catch up if we had a set batter and a speedy outfield.

“You may aim to start your inning with an early overhit. The key is to have a clear understanding of the ball you’re attempting to hit for four. At first, I didn’t have many, but after I got in, I felt like I could really make an impact. Sometimes you have no choice but to do that because of the scoreboard. Today, everything paid off.”
