Iga Swiatek Advance to US Open 4th Round with Victory Over Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova

Iga Swiatek, ranked #1 in the world, advanced to the fourth round of the US Open 2024 after defeating Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia.

The rising Polish tennis player put up a strong show on Saturday, winning 6-4, 6-2 in straight sets.

Liudmila Samsonova, ranked 16th in Russia, will take on Iga Swiatek in an attempt to advance to the quarterfinals.

In the potentially challenging matchup against the former French Open runner-up, who has seven other Grand Slam quarterfinal appearances on her record, Swiatek, the 2022 US Open champion whose five titles this year include a fourth French Open championship, was mostly untroubled.

Feeling the sting of losing to Swiatek 6-0, 6-0 in their lone previous match on the Rome clay earlier in the year, Pavlyuchenkova raised her game.

Swiatek broke early in the first game to take a 3-1 lead, but Pavlyuchenkova stayed close, holding service in a four-deuce game to close the gap to 4-3.

However, Swiatek’s advantage held true, and she used a love game to finish the set without encountering a break point.

Perhaps displeased with Pavlyuchenkova’s ball that found its way into her body on the first point of the set, Swiatek was even more dominant in the second set.

For a 2-1 lead, she broke Pavlyuchenkova at love, supported it with a self-assured hold, then broke once more as she cruised to the finish.

She will play Russian Liudmila Samsonova, ranked sixteenth, in the quarterfinals.

Iga Swiatek Finds Comfort in ‘Modern Family’ Amid Dominant Tournament Run

Iga Swiatek, ranked #1 in the world, has been sailing through the US Open in 2024, and she enjoys an equally laid-back off-court lifestyle. The top seed has discovered a surprise technique to relax as she gets ready for her next match: binge-watching the popular television series Modern Family.

Known for her methodical approach to the game of tennis, Swiatek has been having fun while visiting New York. Following a resounding straight-set triumph over Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, ranked No. 25, Swiatek talked about her days off in the city.

Swiatek disclosed, “I’m staying in a different area of the city and enjoying some restaurants.” In addition, I’ve been watching Modern Family and building Legos. I’m attempting to moderate my excessive viewing of it during Cincinnati.

The popular American sitcom Modern Family, which aired for 11 seasons from 2009 to 2020, appears to have connected with the Polish tennis player. Swiatek’s obsession with the show makes sense, since it’s one of the last remaining mainstays of monoculture in America.

Swiatek said, “I just started watching it because I wanted something light and funny,” when asked who had recommended the show.

Although Swiatek’s most recent obsession is Modern Family, she has always loved Friends, another beloved television series. Even though the show ended almost twenty years ago, Swiatek and other tennis players still love it.

When Swiatek was asked which Friends character she preferred, she answered, “Phoebe was my favorite when I first watched it.” Monica was the one on the second watch.

On Labor Day, Swiatek, who is aiming for her second US Open victory in three years, will take on No. 16 seed Liudmila Samsonova in the fourth round. Swiatek is ready to go far in the competition again with her easygoing demeanor and solid form.
