Jannik Sinner’s Impressive Victory over Alex Michelsen at Cincinnati Open 2024
Jannik Sinner put on a dominant display at the Cincinnati Open 2024 to extend his stellar 2024 campaign.
He defeated American Alex Michelsen 6-4, 7-5. With this triumph, the world No. 1 has won 45 times this year, raising his season total to 45-5.
Jannik Sinner entered Cincinnati having competed in ten competitions in 2024. He has advanced to the quarterfinals or higher at every stage of the competition.
At the Cincinnati Open on Wednesday, the world No. 1 made his first move toward going 11 for 11. Sinner defeated American Alex Michelsen 6-4, 7-5, while saving all eight of his break points. In an interview with the media following the game, the 22-year-old identified his forehand as the key to his success.
“It seemed like a crucial shot against him today.” He’s a very intelligent player now, and he makes excellent use of the backhand, Sinner added. When I got the chance, I made an effort to push a little bit harder with my forehand. The more flat you can play at times, the better, as the court is fairly fast and slick.
Sinner, who suffered from tonsillitis and missed the Olympics in Paris, reached the final eight in Montreal before losing to Andrey Rublev. After defeating Michelsen, Sinner remarked that the Lindner Family Tennis Center’s conditions had caused his hip, which has occasionally caused him trouble, to “react really good.”
The defending champion of the Australian Open has already won 45 of the 50 matches he has played this season. This level of consistency has given him great confidence to return to the winner’s circle after winning the most recent grass-court tournament in Halle in June.
Playing at the best level for a year or so is not simple. There will always be a few occasions where you falter, but you can bounce back with the correct mindset. After that, we’ll see,” Sinner stated. Sinner will next speak with Jordan Thompson.
Later on in the day, Frances Tiafoe defeated Lorenzo Musetti, Sinner’s compatriot, in a convincing manner. In order to win 6-3, 6-2, the American broke the No. 14 seed twice in each set.
A mixed hard-court summer swing throughout North America has been assembled by Tiafoe. A 1-1 effort in Atlanta and an opening-round loss in Montreal were sandwiched between a semifinal performance at his home tournament in Washington, D.C.
The winner of Daniil Medvedev and Jiri Lehecka’s 2019 championship match will face the former US Open semifinalist in the quarterfinals.
