Kylian Mbappe has set his sights on a record-breaking 50 goals in his first season after a brilliant start to his Real Madrid career.
Mbappe not only made an incredible debut in Real Madrid’s UEFA Super Cup opener against Atalanta, but he also helped the team win 2-0 and capture a record-tying sixth Super Cup.
Thursday’s easy victory over Atalanta by Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid team marked the beginning of the new season with a spectacular debut for Kylian Mbappe, who checked all the boxes. At the National Stadium in Warsaw, goals from Mbappe, making his debut, and Fede Valverde, the replacement for Toni Kroos, propelled Real Madrid to a record sixth UEFA Super Cup.
Real Madrid became the most successful team in Super Cup history with a 2-0 victory over the winners of the UEFA Europa League. Prior to the start of the new season, the record-breaking UEFA Champions League winners signed Mbappe as a free agent. Following a quiet first half against the Serie A team in Warsaw, Mbappe made an impression on the game in the 68th minute with a strong effort into the top corner following a deft cross from Jude Bellingham.
After making a great Real Madrid debut, an emotional Mbappe was questioned about scoring 50 goals in his first season. “We are at Real Madrid, we have no limit, if I can score 50, then 50, but the most important thing is winning and improving as a team, because we will win as a team,” Mbappe stated to Movistar.
At Real Madrid, Mbappe was given the renowned No. 9 jersey. Club icons Ronaldo Luis Nazario de Lima, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Karim Benzema all wore the famous jersey at one point.”I’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time, and it was a great night.” It’s a gift for me to play with this shirt and this badge for these fans. We also took home a trophy, which is really significant. We are aware that we must constantly prevail here, therefore I’m thrilled about it,” Mbappe continued.
