Mac Meissner Maintains Lead at Barracuda Championship 2024 Heading into Final Round
Mac Meissner maintained his lead in the Barracuda Championship, continuing his dominance with a strong showing on Saturday.
In the Barracuda Championship, the only PGA TOUR event that employs the Modified Stableford scoring system, Mac Meissner maintained his lead on Saturday after making a last-minute par save and a tap-in birdie.
Meissner had a one-point advantage against Vince Whaley after reaching 39 points, 13 of which came from a round that was delayed by lightning for around 1.5 hours in the afternoon.
After three holes on the Old Greenwood course at Tahoe Mountain Club, Chad Ramey, tied for sixth place with 33, was the only winner on the PGA TOUR to finish in the top eight.
Meissner stated, “I probably won’t be in the lead by the time I tee off tomorrow.” That will be good, then. It’s usually easier to win a golf event when you’re chasing, so I’ll be able to maintain that feeling.
An albatross scores eight points, an eagle scores five, and a birdie scores two for the player. A bogey loses one point, and a double bogey loses three.
Meissner made a 20-foot putt on the par-5 15th hole, going up and down from 230 yards for par. It took him two strokes to reach the fairway after he drove into trouble to the left.
Meissner, who was making his 23rd appearance on the PGA TOUR, subsequently missed a 5-foot birdie attempt on 17 and parred the 18th hole after hitting to 2 feet on the 196-yard 16th.
Meissner remarked, “There are times when you’ll hit good putts and they won’t go in, like it did on 17.” “So, just trying to have as good of speed and as much confidence over the ball as you can; if it matches and goes in, then all the better.”

The 25-year-old former SMU player made a 6-footer to eagle the par-5 third. Whaley’s round was 16 points. He made six birdies, the final coming on the par-4 18th hole, after recovering from a bogey on the second with an eagle on the third.
Whaley remarked, “The eagles are nice out here.” “I made a small 20-footer up the hill after hitting an 8-iron into that spot.” That undoubtedly started the conversation. Rico Hoey, who suffered a playoff setback at the ISCO Championship in Kentucky last week, finished third at 36 following a 15-point afternoon.
Hoey remarked, “I’ve gained a lot of confidence from that week.” It seemed to me that everyone was saying that I belonged here. Whether or whether I succeed in getting things done tomorrow, I’m just going to keep battling and tearing down those barriers because I feel like I belong here.
Max Greyserman and Patrick Fishburn each had 34 points, while Ramey, Marcus Armitage, and Casey Jarvis were all a point behind.
Meissner is ranked 103rd, Whaley is ranked 167th, and Hoey is ranked 111th with three weeks remaining in the FedExCup regular season. The playoffs will be reached by the top 70.
