Coody eagled the par-5 11th hole, striking a 225-yard shot to 6 feet, and added birdies on the par-5 15th and par-4 17th after playing the front nine in even par with three birdies and three bogeys.

“A few things didn’t go my way on the front nine,” said Coody, 24, the grandson of 1971 Masters champion Charles Coody. “I didn’t exactly achieve my goals and found myself in some difficult situations.

“But I just tried to stay with that mindset and fortunately some good bounces and some good putts on the back nine got me back in it. Out here, it seems like every hole you can have a chance at birdie with one good shot.”

He shot a 20-under 196 total in the PGA TOUR and DP World Tour co-sanctioned event at Keene Trace’s Champions Trace. Second place was shared by Rico Hoey of the Philippines and Harry Hall of England.

On his 27th start on the PGA TOUR, Coody started with rounds of 61 and 67 in an attempt to win his first tournament.

“Every shot matters, and my goal is to lead the field,” Cody stated. “I am aware of the significance of each shot. My main objective is to return to the competition, position myself to shoot a 7- or 8-under round, and finish as strongly as possible.

On the PGA TOUR, Hall and Hoey have also failed to win. Hall fired a 64 without bogeys. “It might not be a shootout tomorrow because the greens firmed up so much today compared to the beginning of the week,” Hall stated. For a 67, Hoey bogeyed the par-4 18th hole.

Hoey exclaimed, “I’m very excited.” “I am aware that I will be extremely anxious. It’s a novel circumstance that I have never encountered.
