RCB’s Aggressive Cricket Style and Strategic Bowling: Faf du Plessis Reflects on IPL 2024 Success
Faf du Plessis, the captain of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), expressed his pride in the team’s aggressive cricket style, emphasizing their commitment to playing bold and their recent success in executing this strategy.
“We have been talking about what we want to get better at, and that, for me, is the shining light for the way the boys have bowled”
Faf du Plessis was encouraged by Royal Challengers Bengaluru‘s newfound assertiveness, which enabled them defeat Delhi Capitals by 47 runs and maintain their playoff hopes in the 2024 Indian Premier League.
“We want to play that style of cricket – RCB talks about playing bold,” du Plessis stated, “and just proud that we can actually do that now, putting our performance together.”
RCB knew going into the game that a loss would mean they would not be able to advance further in the competition. Even after being thrown in, they cheaply lost both Virat Kohli and du Plessis. However, that did not deter Will Jacks and Rajat Patidar from putting on an explosive 88-run partnership for the third wicket in a counterattack. They ultimately concluded on 187 for 9.
“It’s just confidence, isn’t it?” said du Plessis regarding the batting display. It didn’t quite work out for us in the first part of the season, even though we were truly fighting for it; in a competition like this, all it takes is a few guys to find their form.
“The boys are batting really well; we’ve been around the 200 mark six or seven games in a row [five of their last seven].” The bowling came next, of course. I believe that in the first five or six games, we were virtually bowled out, and now, for the third time in a row, we have managed to remove a team from the game. That is a commendable attempt. especially with the extra player batting in today’s game.”
In just four overs, RCB reduced Capitals to 30 for 4, seizing the initiative in the chase. David Warner was removed by left-arm fingerspinner Swapnil Singh in the opening over, and then Yash Dayal and Mohammed Siraj took control with lengths and lines that tested the opposition. They managed to restrict the amount of runs scored in the middle overs despite a half-century from Axar Patel in response to Lockie Ferguson’s 2 for 23.

According to du Plessis, “a lot of work has gone in behind the scenes.” “That seems to me to be the most evident area where the change has occurred. We have been discussing our goals and areas for improvement, so I believe that behind closed doors, we are making the proper adjustments to our processes. And that’s the bright spot of the guys’ bowling, in my opinion.
In addition, I think our bowling attack has a lot of variation in my capacity as captain. There are six or seven alternatives, each very distinct. After evaluating the night’s conditions, you are able to virtually select the best solutions. However, Siraj has bowled superbly since his return, clearly looking to make a message. Yash has performed admirably the entire competition. And Lockie has been outstanding in the previous several games.”
