Stoinis Leads The Attack As Lucknow Super Giants Claim Third Place In IPL 2024
Marcus Stoinis Led the attack as Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) beats Mumbai Indians, propelling them to third place in the IPL 2024 points table.
Mumbai Indians faltered with a total of 144, which proved insufficient against LSG’s determined performance.
Mumbai Indians 144 for 7 (Wadhera 46, Mohsin 2-36) lost against Lucknow Super Giants 145 for 6 (Stoinis 62, Hardik 2-26) by four wickets.
Mumbai Indians were always going to struggle because they lost four wickets in the powerplay compared to three boundaries scored. A run a ball or less was lost in four of the first six overs. The same thing happened to two of the final four. It didn’t seem like 144 would be enough, and the Lucknow Super Giants confirmed that by winning by four wickets with four wickets remaining and climbing to third position in the standings. The only thing that really went wrong for KL Rahul was that Mayank Yadav left the field early the night after he returned from injury, actually, which was two things that went wrong.
Mohsin Khan’s slow approach to the crease and the ball he hits are almost unrelated. He may get big on the batter at times. On other occasions, he receives unexpected swings. He must have amazing shoulder strength because he makes excellent use of his height. It appears to be the source of all his pace, which fooled almost everyone. It seemed like he was making a false shot about every three deliveries.
A ball that Rohit Sharma thought was hittable was spooned right into the palms of short cover. The batter for MI threw back his head in complete disappointment. He continued to assume that ought to have lasted for four. However, on his birthday, he was the one who was absent for four. With an eye toward going large, Nehal Wadhera had cleaned his front leg. But before he could react, a scorching yorker struck him, diving beneath his bat and smashing into his stumps.
Batting third in this tournament, Marcus Stoinis has amassed a hundred runs. He also opens bowling for LSG on occasion. If India had a player like that in their Twenty20 team, can you imagine what they would do?
Someone who can each game provide them with two or three overs while batting up the order. Stoinis is aware of his limits. Although he is aware of his lack of pace, it really worked to his advantage when he was bowling to Suryakumar Yadav. The attempt to flick a beautiful leg boundary ended up giving the keeper a feather through. It was a gallant move on the part of LSG to keep Stoinis going for a second over against one of the world’s most dangerous hitters, long after the swing from the new ball had vanished. Deny SKY the pace he like was likely the idea, though, and it proved successful.
They lost consecutive overs to Rohit and Suryakumar. In consecutive balls, they lost both Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya. It was all over for MI after just 5.2 overs. In the powerplay, they were only able to hit three boundaries, which is a season low.
It was an ideal moment for Ravi Bishnoi to enter and set the terms. With a stunning googly that tricked the left-hander into thinking he was going for a slog across the line and had him caught at short third, he bowled four overs in a row while conceding only 28 runs and claiming the wicket of Ishan Kishan. Wadhera made a valiant effort on the other end, going from 9 off 15 to 13 off 20 to 46 off 41 in the end. Mayank was the source of most of his runs (21 off 12, 2x4s, 2x6s).

With a batting average of nearly 40, a strike rate of more than 150, and four wickets in 12 overs bowled, Stoinis of LSG has a cheat code. When he removed Gerald Coetzee for consecutive boundaries in the third over, the chase really got going. Up until that point, the new ball was making some progress, and LSG’s main goal was to see that play through. Before ending with 28 off 22, Rahul had let up (5 off 13). He looked to his partner, and he succeeded in making the play.
In the IPL 2024, Stoinis had an average of 19 and a strike rate of 128 against spin going into this match. However, he took Mohammed Nabi and Piyush Chawla for a combined 29 off just 16 balls, including four fours and a six. He found them to be just to his liking. That proved to be essential insurance because LSG lost two wickets and required 27 balls to score the final 30 runs after he fell.
Mayank Walks off Field After 3.1 Overs Due to Injury
He has not played in five of LSG’s games before returning to action against MI on Tuesday.
Mayank Yadav, an express speed bowler for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), had another near-accident during the 2024 Indian Premier League when he left the field after bowling an incomplete fourth over against the Mumbai Indians. He may have hurt the same region that had kept him out of five games until Tuesday, when he ended his night after taking 1 for 31 in 3.1 overs.
Mayank, 21, had only participated in three IPL games prior to missing time due to stomach pain. when the match, LSG captain KL Rahul stated that he felt it would be best to “not risk him” for the next five balls as a precaution when Mayank approached him following the first ball of his fourth over to express his discomfort in his side.
Following the game, LSG head coach Justin Langer remarked of Mayank, “Looks like he is sore in the same spot.” “His recovery has gone flawlessly; he looked fantastic and bowled pain-free last week. However, tomorrow we’ll get a scan and find out.”
Mayank was named Player of the Match in his first two IPL matches against Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). He regularly exceeded the 150 km/h mark and shocked everyone with his speed on the big stage, especially considering that he had little prior experience playing domestic cricket. Mayank finished with three fors in both games. Prior to making his IPL debut, Mayank has only participated in one first-class match, 17 List A matches, and 10 T20s.
Before being handed the 19th over on Tuesday, Mayank had bowled his first three overs for 31 runs while picking up the tempo. His opening delivery struck Mohammad Nabi and crashed into the stumps, but the quick bowler left the field, allowing Naveen-ul-Haq to finish his over. When he got off and was later replaced by Arshin Kulkarni as the Impact Player during the innings break, Mayank did not appear to be in any pain.
Having come on after the powerplay, Mayank began his day with a bang, hitting Nehal Wadhera in the helmet with his first delivery at 144.1 km/h after taking off from a short distance. Later in the over, he exceeded 150 km/h as well, but he bowled mostly between 140 and 147 km/h, pitching the majority of his deliveries in the short or short-of-good-length zone.
