Top 5 Highest Team Totals in IPL History

1. Sunrisers Hyderabad 287/3 (20)

Sunrisers Hyderabad broke their own record for the highest IPL total on April 15, 2024, when they amassed an incredible 287 for three against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Not only does this impressive score demonstrate their batting ability, but it is also the second-highest in T20 cricket history globally. Only Nepal’s incredible 314/3 versus Mongolia in 2023 will ever top SRH’s historic accomplishment.

2. Sunrisers Hyderabad 277/3 (20)

On March 27, 2024, the batters of SRH shattered one of the longest-standing records held by RCB when they scored 277 with just 3 wickets lost. Heinrich Klaasen, Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, and Aiden Markram of SRH broke the long-standing record held by RCB for the greatest total in the league’s history, writing a new chapter in IPL history. Before Klaasen’s brilliant effort in the last over of the innings gave SRH the record, the RCB owned this record for more than ten years. Travis, Abhishek, and Klaasen all scored fifty with a strike percentage above 200.

3. Kolkata Knight Riders 272/7 (20)

The Kolkata Knight Riders took on the Delhi Capitals in Visakhapatnam, posting a blistering 272 for seven, almost tying Sunrisers Hyderabad’s record in the process. In addition to their previous outstanding performances, the only other teams in the IPL to reach the milestone of scoring 250 or more runs are the Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Lucknow Super Giants.

4. Sunrisers Hyderabad 266/7 (20)

Travis Head led the attack from the top of the order once more as SRH’s batting launched a merciless barrage. An impressive 266 runs were scored in the 20 overs that were allocated. In the third over, the side scored fifty runs, with Head reaching his fifty in just sixteen balls. They hit the century mark in just 5 overs, surging ahead and finishing the powerplay at a commanding 125 for 0.

Shahbaz took charge of the situation even though Delhi Capitals first staged a quick comeback, cutting Sunrisers from 131 for 0 to 151 for 4. Leading his young and unskilled companion, Nitish Kumar, Shahbaz produced an incredible finale. His team’s supremacy was cemented with a blazing 29-ball 59* that carried them to an intimidating total.

5. Royal Challengers Bangalore 263/5 (20)

The adored Indian Premier League team Royal Challengers Bangalore amassed an incredible 263 runs on April 23, 2013, losing only 5 wickets in the process. Chris Gayle, the standout player for the Royals, scored 175 runs on his own and did not get out. In the IPL, it is regarded as a respectable team score.

In T20 cricket, Gayle would have hammered a double century with a few more balls. As Gayle permanently inscribed his name in history, other RCB players such as Tillakaratne Dilshan, Virat Kohli, and AB de Villiers played second fiddle. Limitation on Pune Warriors India was 133/9.
