Champions League winners Real Madrid defeated Borussia Dortmund 5-2 on Tuesday after rallying from a two-goal deficit thanks to a spectacular hat-trick from Vinicius Junior. In a rematch of the previous season’s final, Madrid thrashed Dortmund with an incredible second half performance following a shocking blunder at Lille in their previous European match.

Similar to that game, Carlo Ancelotti’s team battled in the first half against the Bundesliga team, who took a two-goal lead through Jamie Gittens and Donyell Malen before winning a record-tying 15th Champions League title at Wembley.

But after 83 minutes, Lucas Vazquez scored the third goal, and Antonio Rudiger and Vinicius tied the score with two goals in two minutes.

Los Blancos ended Dortmund’s perfect start to the competition with another comeback to add to a huge collection in Europe, with Vinicius scoring a spectacular solo goal for Madrid’s fourth and hammering in the fifth.

Vinicius told Movistar, “We know that anything can happen when we are at home, with our fans.”

“We entered (at halftime) in silence, listened to the coach, and only spoke once.

“If we scored the first, we would come back once again, and we made another comeback, thanks to the fans and the whole team who gave everything.”

Madrid has had trouble finding balance and consistency this season after midfield guru Toni Kroos retired and while attempting to integrate Mbappe into the squad.

For the first thirty minutes of the game, they were annoyed by the visitors since they couldn’t make any clear-cut openings before the game broke out.

“We have to learn from what we are capable of in this second half with high intensity and high tempo, we have to start games like that, not wait until they have scored two to react like we did,” cautioned Ancelotti.

“To be more balanced in terms of intensity between the first half and the second is something we have to achieve and I am sure we will do it.”

After Serhou Guirassy slipped a pass through a narrow opening to locate the Dutch winger, and Julian Brandt won the ball back on the outskirts of the area, Malen opened the scoring with a calm finish.

Malen scored the second four minutes later, escaping Ferland Mendy with his lightning-fast speed and crossing for Gittens to finish with joy.

Before the half, Madrid opened the scoring for Dortmund, but they were unable to come up with a game-winning goal.

When Gregor Kobel sprinted onto a scooped pass into the area, Bellingham, who hasn’t scored in ten games this season, headed directly for him.

After teammate Rodrygo also struck the woodwork, the England international, facing his old club, then hit the crossbar from close range on the rebound, leaving Madrid supporters hardly believing they had failed to score.

In the second half, the home team took control, and although Kobel made a great save at Lucas Vazquez’s near post, he was unable to stop Rudiger’s strong header from Mbappe’s cross an hour later.

as Mbappe was tackled in the area two minutes later, Madrid tied the score, but Vinicius easily scored as the ball fell invitingly.

Goal scorers Gitten and Malen were substituted out by Dortmund coach Nuri Sahin, a former Madrid player, but his team was unable to stave off the ravenous hosts.

After Vinicius added brilliance with his excellent fourth goal and Rodrygo did a good job of keeping the ball in play, Vazquez completed Madrid’s comeback.

Expected to win his first Ballon d’Or in Paris on Monday, the Brazilian executed a deadly low finish after carrying the ball forward unassisted.

In addition to warning La Liga leaders Barcelona, who will visit the Bernabeu on Saturday, Vinicius then added a fifth goal by charging into the area and firing past Kobel.

“We’ll go for it, in our stadium, with our fans, and we will fight for everything this season like always,” Vinicius said.
