World Test Championship 2023-25 Final Showdown Set for June 11 at Lord’s: Key Details and Match Previews
ICC World Test Championship Final 2023-25 Circle Updates:
The renowned Lord’s Cricket Ground will host the much awaited World Test Championship (WTC) 2023–25 final, which is set to begin on June 11, 2025. This esteemed occasion is the third iteration of the WTC, and it takes place for the first time at Lord’s.
The top two teams in the points standings right now are Australia and India, with 68.52 and 62.50 percentage points, respectively, but the winners won’t be revealed until the following year. Ten Tests remain in the cycle for India, the losing finalists in the last two World T20s: two at home against Bangladesh, three at home against New Zealand, and five away in Australia. The reigning champions, Australia, also have an away series of two Tests in Sri Lanka.
“Captaining Australia to victory in the World Test Championship was and still is a major objective for this team,” a statement from Pat Cummins said. It is the result of every team’s two-year cycle of perseverance and hard work coming together. There is still a lot of cricket to be played between now and then, so maybe we will be there again so the fans can watch us defend the title.”
At present, New Zealand (50.00) has the third rank on the nine-team standings, while Bangladesh (45.83) is ranked fourth following their remarkable 2-0 series victory in Pakistan. South Africa (38.89) and England (45.00) come next. Currently, West Indies, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka are the bottom three teams.
All three of the WTC finals have been held in England; the first two took place in Southampton and The Oval, respectively.
Guy Lavender, the chief executive and secretary of the MCC, said, “We’re delighted to be working with the ICC to bring the World Test Championship final to Lord’s for the first time.” “We are honored to be chosen to host a championship game of any kind, but it is a very special honor to have the two best men’s teams in Test cricket, our favorite format. It will contribute to the legendary 140-year heritage of Lord’s Tests and be an experience not to be missed.”
Next summer, Lord’s will play host to two Test matches. The England vs India Test is scheduled for July 10–14. The tour will commence at Headingley on June 20 and include Tests at Edgbaston (from July 2), Lord’s, Old Trafford (from July 23), and The Oval (from July 31). That is the third Test of the tour. India would play six Tests in a succession in England if they get to the WTC final.
