After defeating South Africa in Barbados, the Indian cricket team snapped a 17-year drought by winning the T20 World Cup 2024.
With their victory over South Africa in the 2024 edition’s Barbados final, the Indian cricket team ended their 17-year wait to win the T20 World Cup. With their previous taste of victory in the format dating back to 2007, veterans Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma carried the weight of India’s historic occasion.
As congratulations for Team India’s victory flowed in from all over the nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also shared information on his phone call with Rahul Dravid, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli following the historic victory.
After they departed the format for the Indian squad, PM Modi spoke with Rohit and Virat over the phone regarding their careers as T20 internationals, praising them for their contributions.
“You are perfection in every way. Your aggressive playing style, aggressive thinking, and leadership have elevated the Indian squad to new heights. Your Twenty20 career will be cherished memories. Happy to have chatted with you earlier today, PM Modi wrote on captain Rohit’s behalf.
PM Modi praised Kohli for how he steadied the innings in the championship game. I’m happy to have talked to you. You have done a fantastic job anchoring Indian batting, much like the Finals innings. In every aspect of the game, you have excelled. Though I’m sure you’ll keep inspiring the next generation of players, T20 Cricket will miss you,” he wrote on X.
As his term as head coach of India draws to a conclusion, PM Modi also had some kind things to say about Dravid, thanking him for his guidance to the team.
