Virat Kohli’s T20 World Cup Instagram Post Breaks Asian Records, Surpasses Bollywood Couple’s Milestone
Virat Kohli posted a joyful picture of his squad and himself holding the trophy on Instagram after India’s historical triumph at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 against South Africa.
Virat Kohli, who had struggled with form throughout the tournament, produced a game-winning effort in the final, scoring 76 runs and taking home the Player of the Match award.
The triumph of India in the 2024 T20 World Cup would be remembered as one of the most significant occasions in cricket history. In an exciting final, Rohit Sharma and company defeated South Africa by seven runs, maintaining their undefeated record throughout the competition.
Team India broke their 11-year ICC trophy drought with this victory. Star batsman Virat Kohli struggled mightily throughout the competition, but in the championship game, he overcame his slump to smash 76 runs and win Player of the Match.
Following India’s victory, Kohli posted a picture of himself holding a trophy and rejoicing with the group on Instagram. With over 21 million likes, the image has risen to the top of Instagram’s most liked pictures in India.
The record of 16 million likes on Bollywood stars Siddharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani’s wedding photos has been exceeded by Kohli’s post.
The post by the prominent Indian batter has amassed the most likes not just in India but throughout the entire Asian region. The record of 20 million likes held by Korean band BTS frontman Kim Taehyung has been surpassed. In addition, Kohli became the first Asian person to ever receive 21 million likes on an Instagram post.
Kohli revealed earlier in his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi that he was completely lacking confidence before the final and that India captain Rohit Sharma and former head coach Rahul Dravid had inspired him.

“No matter what I tried, it didn’t seem well. Anytime you think, “I can handle this,” that’s simply your arrogance talking. In short, you lose the game if your ego gets in the way. It’s necessary to occasionally let that haughtiness fly. Considering how everything worked out in the end, there was no room for hubris in the final. The team benefited as soon as I started treating the game with respect. It taught me a valuable lesson,” Kohli remarked.
In addition, Kohli said that he was pleased to help the squad in the crucial match.
“We experienced every ball at the end, but we still don’t know what was inside. We were on the verge of giving up when Hardik grabbed a wicket, but we soon found our energy again with every delivery. After a difficult period, I’m glad I could help the squad in such a significant game. It’s something I will never forget. That I could lead the squad to a competitive total made me thrilled,” Kohli continued.
