Formula 1 Records: Most Wins, Pole Positions, and World Championships
Explore Formula 1’s greatest moments with a thorough examination of the records for most victories, pole positions, and world championships.
The pinnacle of motorsport, Formula 1, has broken records after decades of fierce competition and technological improvements.
In Formula One, success is divided between constructors and drivers. Teams like Ferrari, McLaren, and Williams have smashed Formula 1 records over the years because to their consistently fast vehicles and quickest drivers.
However, several drivers have worked hard in the cockpit to smash their own Formula 1 records. Numerous tables show Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher at the top; we’ve already examined how they stack up against one another.
The Formula 1 records for the most championships won, pole positions, and race entries—both by teams and by individuals—can be found here. If you’d want additional information about the youngest drivers to win races, points, podiums, and championships.

Despite Max Verstappen’s current dominance, Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher are deadlocked with seven titles apiece as of the 2024 season. At the start of the new millennium, the German was unstoppable, winning five consecutive championships with Ferrari. These came on top of the two world titles he won in the 1990s with Benetton. It appeared to be an unbreakable record. But in the hybrid era, Mercedes’s supremacy under Lewis Hamilton completely changed the landscape of motorsports.
Following Schumacher’s retirement at the conclusion of 2012, Hamilton took over at Mercedes. Hamilton went on to win six more world championships between 2014 and 2020. In addition to his first championship in his second season with McLaren, the six titles tie him for the record as the most successful driver of all time.
The record of five titles won by Juan Manuel Fangio in the 1950s endured. The first truly outstanding driver of the Formula 1 era, he finished the first seven seasons he entered either first or second in the championship. Up until 2003, when Schumacher won his sixth championship, his record held. Alain Prost won four titles from his fights with Nelson Piquet, Ayrton Senna, and Nigel Mansell. The complete control Sebastian Vettel had with Red Bull in the early 2010s also stood out.
Most Constructors’ World Championships
Position | Team | Championships |
1 | Ferrari | 16 |
2 | Williams | 9 |
3 | McLaren | 8 |
3 | Mercedes | 8 |
5 | Lotus | 7 |
It’s hardly surprising that Ferrari sits atop the Constructors’ Championship standings given that they are the Formula 1 team with the longest tenure. Since the 1950 season, when Formula 1 began, the Scuderia has been a constant presence in the sport and has come to represent it.
However, participating in every race is one thing; succeeding in them is quite another. The Ferrari in scarlet red has dominated the grid for decades. It has produced 15 drivers’ champions and 16 constructors’ championships. Alberto Ascari, Juan Manuel Fangio, Mike Hawthorn, Phil Hil, Niki Lauda, Michael Schumacher, and, most recently, Kimi Raikkonen are among its world champions.
In this ranking, there’s a big difference between first and second. Williams has competed in Formula 1 since 1977 and has won nine of the series’ championships in the 1980s and 1990s. Among its driver champions are Damon Hill, Keke Rosberg, and Alain Prost.
Lewis Hamilton was one of McLaren’s twelve driver champions, however the team only won eight constructors’ titles. Six of Mercedes’ seven titles were shared by him and Nico Rosberg, his teammate and opponent, took the other one.

Upon entering a Formula 1 car for the first time, the paddock realized this person was unique. However, nobody anticipated what would happen after Lewis Hamilton won his first race in Canada in 2007. With ease, Lewis Hamilton achieved a record 104 wins. The winning streak may have been interrupted by Red Bull’s Flying Dutchman, but Hamilton proved at the 2024 British Grand Prix that he still has what it takes to stand on the top step.
In 2023, Max Verstappen’s incredible season disqualified Ayrton Senna from the fifth position, Alain Prost from the fourth position, and Sebastian Vettel from the third position in the final race of the season. For the 26-year-old driver, it has been a good season.
The majority of Schumacher’s 91 victories came with Ferrari, including an almost flawless year in 2002. He finished with 11 victories, five second-place finishes, and one third-place result. Sebastian Vettel comes in fourth place thanks to his Red Bull record and his championship runs with Ferrari.
