IPL 2024 Champion- Kolkata Knight Riders
Kolkata Knight Riders 114 for 2 (Venkatesh 52*, Gurbaz 39) beat Sunrisers Hyderabad 113 (Cummins 24, Russell 3-19, Starc 2-14) by 8 wickets.
The 2024 Indian Premier League Final was played between KKR and SRH on 26 May 2024 at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Sunrisers Hyderabad chose to bat after winning the toss and could only muster 113 runs in 18.3 overs. The Kolkata Knight Riders won their third IPL championship with ease, reaching the goal in 10.3 overs and winning by eight wickets.
Mitchell Starc of the KKR was chosen the player of the match for his two wickets and two catches. Sunil Narine (KKR) was recognized as the player of the season for hitting 488 runs and getting 17 wickets throughout the competition.
IPL 2023 Champion- Chennai Super Kings
Chennai Super Kings 171 for 5 in 15 overs (Conway 47, Dube 32*, Mohit 3-36) beat Gujarat Titans 214 for 4 (Sudharsan 96, Saha 54) by 5 wickets via DLS method.
The 2023 Indian Premier League final was played on 29 May 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad between CSK and GT. Rain forced the match, which was initially supposed to take place on May 28th, to be moved to May 29th. This was the first time the IPL final had been rescheduled because of bad weather.
Gujarat Titans broke the record for the highest team total in an IPL final with 214 runs for four wickets after Chennai Super Kings won the toss and decided to field. The Super Kings’ innings was delayed by more than an hour due to bad weather, and the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method was used to change the goal to 171 runs in 15 overs. The team eventually won by five wickets, winning their fifth IPL title. Devon Conway of CSK was selected the game’s MVP.
IPL 2022 Champion- Gujarat Titans
Gujarat Titans 133 for 3 (Gill 45*, Hardik 34, Miller 32*, Boult 1-14) beat Rajasthan Royals 130 for 9 (Buttler 39, Hardik 3-17, Sai Kishore 2-20) by 7 wickets.
The 2022 Indian Premier League final was played between Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals on 29 May 2022 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. In their inaugural season, Gujarat Titans defeated Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets to win both the match and the championship. Hardik Pandya, the captain of the Titans, was named player of the match.
After winning the toss, Rajasthan Royals’ Sanju Samson decided to bat first and force the Gujarat Titans to field. In their 20 overs, Rajasthan Royals amassed 130 runs at a cost of nine wickets. In just 18.1 overs, the Gujarat Titans won both the Indian Premier League championship in their first tournament and the match after chasing 131 for 133 runs at a cost of three wickets.
Hardik Pandya, the captain of the Titans, was the player of the match after scoring 34 runs in 30 balls and taking three wickets while giving up 17 runs in his four overs.
IPL 2021 Champion- Chennai Super Kings
Chennai Super Kings 192 for 3 (du Plessis 86, Moeen 37*, Narine 2-26) beat Kolkata Knight Riders 165 for 9 (Gill 51, Iyer 50, Thakur 3-38, Hazlewood 2-29) by 27 runs.
The 2021 Indian Premier League final was played between CSK and KKR on 15 October 2021 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, UAE. Chennai Super Kings won the match by 27 runs beating Kolkata Knight Riders, to win their fourth IPL title.
After winning the toss, Kolkata Knight Riders’ Eoin Morgan decided to bat first against the Chennai Super Kings. In their 20 overs, the Super Kings amassed 192 runs, with Faf du Plessis leading the way with 86 runs off 59 balls. The Knight Riders failed in their attempt to win by 193 runs and ended up scoring 165 runs in 20 overs with 9 wickets lost.
The player with the most wickets taken, Shardul Thakur, took three wickets for 38 runs. The Super Kings won their fourth Indian Premier League Championship by winning the game by 27 runs. Du Plessis was declared as the player of the contest.
IPL 2020 Champion- Mumbai Indians
Mumbai Indians 157 for 5 (Rohit 68, Kishan 33*, Nortje 2-25) beat Delhi Capitals 156 for 7 (Iyer 65*, Pant 56, Boult 3-30, Coulter-Nile 2-29) by 5 wickets.
The 2020 Indian Premier League final was played between the Mumbai Indians and the Delhi Capitals at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai. The Mumbai Indians, the reigning champions, won the game by a margin of five wickets to hold onto the title. For the Mumbai Indians, this was their fifth IPL title. The Delhi Capitals were making their first appearance in an IPL final.
Delhi Capitals captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to bat. Despite losing seven wickets, the Delhi Capitals managed to collect 156 runs.
Before Quinton de Kock was removed by wicket keeper Rishabh Pant after being caught behind by right-arm medium-pace bowler Marcus Stoinis, the Mumbai Indians innings, chasing a target of 157, got off to a healthy start with a partnership of 45 runs in four overs between captain Rohit Sharma and the left-handed batsman.
With Sharma leading the way at 68 off 51 balls until being caught off guard by South African right-arm fast bowler Anrich Nortje, substitute fielder Lalit Yadav did not face any major obstacles in pursuit of the target. Ishan Kishan and Krunal Pandya easily saw the team through, needing only 20 runs from 22 balls. Ultimately, the squad needed eight balls and five wickets to reach the mark.
IPL 2019 Champion- Mumbai Indians
Mumbai Indians 149 for 8 (Pollard 41*, Chahar 3-26) beat Chennai Super Kings 148 for 7 (Watson 80, Bumrah 2-14) by 1 run.
The 2019 Indian Premier League final was played between Chennai Super Kings and the Mumbai Indians on 12 May 2019 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. Mumbai won the match by a single run and claimed their fourth Indian Premier League title.
When MI won the toss, they decided to bat first. In their 20 overs, MI scored 149 runs for eight wickets, with Kieron Pollard top-scoring with 41 runs. In the innings, Deepak Chahar, a bowler from Chennai, claimed three wickets.
Shane Watson, who finished the game with 80 runs as the highest scorer, led Chennai in reply. Chennai was bowled out for 148 runs in the last over because to some tight bowling. Jasprit Bumrah of the Mumbai Indians won player of the match after going two for 14 in his four overs.
IPL 2018 Champion- Chennai Super Kings
Chennai Super Kings 181/2 (Watson 117*) beat Sunrisers Hyderabad 178/6 (Williamson 47) by 8 wickets.
The 2018 Indian Premier League final was played between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings, on 27 May 2018 at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
Shikhar Dhawan, the opening batter, attempted to challenge the rigorous bowling after getting off to a sluggish start. In the seventh over, uncapped bowler and former SRH player Karn Sharma entered the attack. Every over, Dhawan and captain Williamson were going for a boundary, keeping things slow and steady. In the final two overs, SRH could only muster 18 runs. With a total score of 178/6, SRH was roughly average.
While Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled the opening over for his team, Faf du Plessis and Shane Watson opened the innings for CSK. Du Plessis was lost by the Super Kings early on, but with a combined score of 117 runs, Watson and Raina denied the Sunrisers any chance to rally.
Watson hit his second century of the IPL season by punishing the other Sunrisers bowlers after initially taking his time playing out Bhuvneshwar’s overs. Following Raina’s exit, Rayudu teamed up with Watson to help the Super Kings win their third IPL crown by finishing the chase. With this win, CSK lifted the IPL trophy for the 3rd time in their seventh appearance in an IPL final.
IPL 2017 Champion- Mumbai Indians
Mumbai Indians 129 for 8 (Krunal 47, Unadkat 2-19, Zampa 2-32, Christian 2-34) beat Rising Pune Supergiant 128 for 6 (Smith 51, Rahane 44, Johnson 3-26, Bumrah 2-26) by 1 run.
The 2017 Indian Premier League final was played between the Mumbai Indians and the Rising Pune Supergiant, on 21 May 2017, at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad.
Mumbai became the first team to win the IPL trophy more than twice with their third title. Mumbai’s IPL final score of 129 was also the lowest total ever successfully defended. Following his 38-ball 47, Krunal Pandya was named man of the match. Stokes, an all-rounder representing Pune, was named the season’s Most Valuable Player.
IPL 2016 Champion- Sunrisers Hyderabad
Sunrisers Hyderabad 208 for 7 (Warner 69, Cutting 39*, Jordan 3-45) beat Royal Challengers Bangalore 200 for 7 (Gayle 76, Kohli 54, Cutting 2-35) by 8 runs.
The 2016 Indian Premier League final was played between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore on 29 May 2016 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore.
After winning the toss, Sunrisers Hyderabad chose to bat first, putting their opponent up to a massive 208/7 after 20 overs. Royal Challengers Bangalore, needing to win by 209 runs, scored 200/7 in their 20 overs, falling barely short of their goal. By an 8-run margin, Sunrisers Hyderabad became victorious in the Indian Premier League, taking home the trophy for the first time ever.
Mustafizur Rahman of Sunrisers Hyderabad was named the 2016 Indian Premier League’s emerging player of the season. Ben Cutting of Sunrisers Hyderabad was named the team’s man of the match in the championship game, while Virat Kohli of Royal Challengers Bangalore was named the most valuable player of the competition.
IPL 2015 Champion- Mumbai Indians
Mumbai Indians 202 for 5 (Simmons 68, Rohit 50, Bravo 2-36) beat Chennai Super Kings 161 for 8 (Smith 57, McClenaghan 3-25 ,Harbhajan 2-34) by 41 runs.
The 2015 Indian Premier League final was played between the Mumbai Indians and the Chennai Super Kings, played on 24 May 2015, at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. These two teams had previously faced off in the 2010 and 2013 finals, making this their third meeting in the championship game.
In their third IPL final, Mumbai defeated Chennai by 41 runs to claim their second IPL title. They had triumphed against the same opposition in the 2013 Indian Premier League at the same location. In an attempt to win their third championship, Chennai was participating in their sixth IPL final. After hitting 50 runs in his innings, Mumbai captain Rohit Sharma was named man of the match.
IPL 2014 Champion- Kolkata Knight Riders
Kolkata Knight Riders 200 for 7 (Pandey 94, Karanveer 4-54) beat Kings XI Punjab 199 for 4 (Saha 115*, Vohra 67) by 3 wickets.
The 2014 Indian Premier League final was played between Kings XI Punjab and Kolkata Knight Riders on 1 June 2014 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore.
Kolkata Knight Riders chose to field first after winning the toss. After 20 overs, Kings XI Punjab put up a formidable 199/4 for their opponent. With three balls remaining and seven wickets lost, Kolkata Knight Riders successfully chased the target and won their second IPL trophy.
In the Final, Axar Patel was named the season’s emerging player, Glenn Maxwell was named the most valuable player, and Manish Pandey was named man of the match.
IPL 2013 Champion- Mumbai Indians
Mumbai Indians 148 for 9 (Pollard 60*, Bravo 4-42, Morkel 2-12) beat Chennai Super Kings 125 for 9 (Dhoni 63*, Johnson 2-19, Harbhajan 2-14) by 23 runs.
The 2013 Indian Premier League final was played between the Chennai Super Kings and the Mumbai Indians on 26 May 2013 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
Kieron Pollard’s flawless 60 runs from 32 balls, which won him the man of the match award, helped Mumbai defeat Chennai by 23 runs.
After losing to Chennai in 2010, Mumbai made their IPL Final comeback and took home their first trophy. In an attempt to capture their third championship, Chennai was competing in their fifth IPL Final. It was also Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar’s farewell match for Mumbai.
IPL 2012 Champions- Kolkata Knight Riders
Kolkata Knight Riders 192 for 5 (Bisla 89, Kallis 69) beat Chennai Super Kings 190 for 3 (Raina 73, Hussey 54, Vijay 42) by 5 wickets.
The 2012 Indian Premier League final was played between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders on 27 May 2012 at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
After winning the toss, Chennai Super Kings decided to bat first and put their opponent up to a massive total of 190/3 from 20 overs. With two balls remaining, Kolkata Knight Riders successfully pursued the score and won the 2012 Indian Premier League trophy—their first-ever championship in the competition’s history.
Sunil Narine of the Kolkata Knight Riders was named the tournament’s most valuable player, while Manvinder Bisla of the team was named “man of the match” in the final match.
IPL 2011 Champions- Chennai Super Kings
Chennai Super Kings 205 for 5 (Vijay 95, Hussey 63) beat Royal Challengers Bangalore 147 for 8 (Ashwin 3-16) by 58 runs.
The IPL 2011 final was played between CSK and RCB on 28 May 2011 at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
Additionally, it was the first time a tournament winner has advanced to the championship match and successfully defended their title. The Deccan Chargers (2009) and Rajasthan Royals (2008), the previous champions, were unable to advance to the championship game or win back their titles in the next competition. The Chennai Super Kings became the first team to win the Indian Premier League more than once with this victory.
Captain of the Super Kings, MS Dhoni, decided to bat first after winning the toss. The Super Kings lost five wickets while scoring 205 runs in 20 overs. They scored 159 in their opening partnership until Mike Hussey got out after hitting 63 runs from 45 balls.
However, Murali Vijay, the other opener, led his team in scoring. He narrowly missed out on a century with 95 runs. The Royal Challengers’ finest bowler was Chris Gayle. He claimed two wickets. When Chris Gayle was out for a duck on the third delivery of the Royal Challengers’ innings, the opener failed to establish a strong opening partnership.
The inability of the Royal Challengers to form alliances prevented them from participating in the game successfully. They lost eight wickets and ended their innings at 147. Saurabh Tiwary led the Royal Challengers with an undefeated 42. Ravichandran Ashwin of the Super Kings bowled three wickets for sixteen runs. With a knock of 95, Murali Vijay was named man of the match.
IPL 2010 Champion- Chennai Super Kings
Chennai Super Kings 168 for 5 (Raina 57*, Dhoni 22, Fernando 2-23) beat Mumbai Indians 146 for 9 (Tendulkar 48, Pollard 27, Jakati 2-27) by 22 runs.
The IPL 2010 final was played between CSK and Mi on 25 April 2010 at the DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai. After losing the first edition, MS Dhoni finally led CSk to its first IPL title in 2010.
Captain of the Super Kings, MS Dhoni, chose to bat first after winning the toss. With five wickets lost in 20 overs, the Super Kings managed to score 168 runs. Suresh Raina led the Super Kings in scoring with an undefeated 57 runs off 35 balls while batting at number three.
Super Kings were able to reach the total thanks to a late cameo of 15 from Albie Morkel and 22 from captain Dhoni. Dilhara Fernando, a bowler for the Indians, grabbed two wickets for 23 runs. After being out at one run, the Indians were unable to establish a strong opening partnership with Shikhar Dhawan.
But an alliance of 67 runs for the second wicket gave the Indians some hope. However, the Indians lost all hope after that cooperation ended. Even with a cameo of 27 runs off of 10 balls from Kieron Pollard, skipper Sachin Tendulkar’s 48 runs were insufficient to complete the target of 169. They lost nine wickets in reaching 146 in the 20 overs that were allowed.
Shadab Jakati grabbed two wickets and Muttiah Muralitharan, Doug Bollinger, Suresh Raina, Albie Morkel got one wicket apiece. Super Kings secured their first Indian Premier League title after winning the game by a margin of 22 runs. With an undefeated 57 and a wicket, Suresh Raina was named man of the match. This encounter made some wonder why Kieron Pollard, who had the target within reach, was kept back down the order when he had the opportunity to move higher up.
IPL 2009 Champion- Deccan Chargers Hyderabad
Deccan Chargers 143 for 6 (Gibbs 53*, Kumble 4-16) beat Royal Challengers Bangalore 137 for 9 (Ojha 3-28, Symonds 2-18) by 6 runs.
The IPL 2009 final was played between Deccan Chargers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore on 24 May 2009 at the New Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg. Adam Gilchrist led Deccan Chargers to 6 runs victories against RCB.
Anil Kumble, the captain of the Royal Challengers, won the toss and decided to field first. The Chargers lost six wickets while scoring 143 runs in 20 overs. Herschelle Gibbs led the Chargers in scoring while batting first with 53 runs. Anil Kumble, a bowler for the Royals, collected four wickets for 16 runs. The Royal Challengers failed to develop an effective opening pair.
Nevertheless, it reached 129/9 in the final over thanks to contributions from the middle order. However, Royal Challengers were unable to get fifteen runs off of RP Singh’s final over. They took 8 and the match ended with Royal Challengers 137/9. By winning by six runs, the Chargers won the 2009 Indian Premier League championship. Kumble was declared the man of the match because he was the finest player for the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
IPL 2008 Champion- Rajasthan Royals
Rajasthan Royals 164 for 7 (Yusuf 56) beat Chennai Super Kings 163 for 5 (Raina 43, Yusuf 3-22) by 3 wickets.
The IPL 2008 final was played between Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings on 1 June 2008 at the DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai. Shane Warne led his side to 3 wickets victory over CSK in the very inaugural season of the Indian Premier League.
The Super Kings, captained by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, came in third place in the group stage table, while the Royals, headed by Shane Warne, were first. In the semifinals, they had triumphed against the Kings XI Punjab and the Delhi Daredevils, respectively.
Shane Warne, the captain of the Royals, won the toss and decided to field first. With five wickets lost in 20 overs, the Super Kings managed to score 163 runs. Suresh Raina led the Super Kings in scoring with 43 runs while batting at number three.
Yusuf Pathan, a bowler for the Royals, captured three wickets for 22 runs. The Royals were unable to establish a strong opening duo. But thanks to middle order contributions, it managed to reach the winning total on the final ball and win the Indian Premier League in 2008. The Royals’ finest player with the bat and the ball, Pathan, was chosen man of the match.
