Aston Villa 2-0 Bologna: Jhon Duran Shines in Champions League Victory as Villa Remains Unbeaten
Aston Villa extended their stellar Champions League run to their third straight triumph with a 2-0 victory over Bologna.
Villa now leads the Champions League group standings after goals from John McGinn and Jhon Duran sealed the victory.
According to Unai Emery, “everything is under control” after Jhon Duran’s response to being substituted during Tuesday’s 2-0 Champions League victory against Bologna.
After John McGinn’s first goal in the second half, the Colombian international extended Villa’s lead. However, his jubilation ended two minutes later, and he was replaced by Ollie Watkins.
Duran left the field, passed his manager on the touchline, then walked up to the bench and seemed to hit it angrily.
“No. When asked about the reaction, Emery responded, “I oversee everything, including the reaction.” “We convey a respectful message to everyone in the dressing room. Make an effort to be responsible and mature. We have control over it.
Villa won another Champions League match to stay undefeated this season, and Duran scored his first goal on his first Champions League start.
Both teams started the game strong, and the first few minutes of the match were an end-to-end contest.
With the help of the traveling Bologna fans who crowded the away end, Thijs Dallinga had the best chance to put the visitors ahead but was stopped by Emiliano Martinez’s outstretched arm.
After the early scare, Villa rapidly gained control of the game and Lukasz Skorupski was called into action by both Duran and John McGinn before halftime.
Villa was disappointed in the first half, but they came back to life in the latter third and eventually broke the tie with a long-range free kick from McGinn (55).
The Villa captain’s opening goal was quite fortunate, even though it sounded amazing.
A ball that eluded defenders on both sides and curled into the back of the net was coaxed into the area by the Scotland star, who was standing over the set-piece.
Nine minutes later, Duran scored Villa’s second goal with a deft finish at the near-post just before being replaced.
The club led by Unai Emery is now leading the new Champions League format and is only the third to win their first three games without giving up a goal.
