The 39-year-old’s momentous moment arrived in the 34th minute when he headed in a cross from Nuno Mendes, electrifying the Estadio da Luz crowd. A heartfelt celebration accompanied Ronaldo’s incredible accomplishment, highlighting the momentous nature of the occasion.

Not on the shortlist for the Ballon d’Or, but it doesn’t matter because Cristiano Ronaldo carries on with his routine. The renowned Portuguese player scored his 900th goal in career on Thursday, helping his team overcome Croatia 2-1 in the opening round of the UEFA Nations League. A few days ago, Ronaldo struck an incredible free kick for his Saudi Arabian team Al-Nassr, moving him one step closer to the historic goal. The 39-year-old celebrated reaching the significant milestone last night as though it had been his career’s first goal.

In the 34th minute of the game at the Estadio da Luz, Ronaldo—who plays club football in Saudi Arabia—turned in a cross from Nuno Mendes to create professional football history.

As he celebrated the goal—his 131st in a Portugal shirt—he seemed emotional. He scored half of his goals for Real Madrid and the other half at Sporting Lisbon, Manchester United, and Al-Nassr, where he is currently playing.

Ronaldo also responded to the historic 900th goal on social media, dropping a hint that he has no intention of laying up his boots anytime soon.

Before Ronaldo scored, Diogo Dalot’s goal had put Portugal ahead, and Dalot’s own goal had cut the gap just before halftime. The teams, Poland, and Scotland are in Group A1 of the most recent Nations League.

On Sunday, Portugal will play Scotland in Lisbon. The striker from Real Madrid and Manchester United, Ronaldo, is now the highest scoring player in the annals of professional football. With 838 goals scored in professional football, his bitter rival Lionel Messi comes in second.
