On Day 3 of the ongoing 1st Test against Sri Lanka in Manchester, a fan made a one-handed catch while clutching a pint of beer, leaving England cricket team manager Paul Collingwood thrilled. The spectator was enjoying a beer to complement the weather on a sunny, bright day at Old Trafford when pacer Mark Wood smashed the ball into the seats. Asitha Fernando bowled a short ball to Wood in the 18th over, and Wood pushed it over deep midwicket and into the bleachers.

The man was holding four cups of beer, stacked one on top of the other, when the ball fell in his hands. But with a single motion, he pouched the ball, leaving Collingwood and the others stunned.

Despite carrying a pint in his other hand, Collingwood was spotted laughing over the same thing and even making gestures to indicate that the man pulled it off.

Day 3 saw Jamie Smith reach his first-ever hundred runs in a Test match before England’s second-inning collapse of Sri Lanka to 10-2 solidified the hosts’ hold on the opening Test match at Old Trafford.

The centerpiece of England’s first-inning 358 all out on the third day was Smith’s 111, which put them 122 runs ahead of Sri Lanka’s opening 236.

However, because of weather-related delays on the first two days of this three-match series, play was delayed, which meant that by the time England was out, Sri Lanka had to endure an uncomfortable little session before lunch. They lost two wickets in three overs in that amount of time.

When Nishan Madushka lifted his arms in response to a Chris Woakes delivery that skidded back off the field, he was out for nought. Kusal Mendis was out for nought after edging Gus Atkinson low behind to Smith.

With Ben Stokes sidelined due to a torn hamstring, England will be looking to veteran all-rounder Angelo Mathews (six not out) and Dimuth Karunaratne (four not out) to stave off further collapse. This will be stand-in captain Ollie Pope’s maiden game in command.
