Haris Rauf on Confrontation Video During T20 World Cup: “Family Comes First, and I Will Respond Accordingly”

Haris Rauf, the fast-bowling sensation from Pakistan, has responded to a widely shared video on social media.

In the video, Rauf and his spouse can be seen getting into a furious argument with some people. Rauf stressed that he was open to hearing from the public, but he was also clear that he would not put up with abuse or threats against his family.

In response to a video of himself and a few unidentified men that went viral on social media, Pakistan’s quick bowler Haris Rauf said he was open to “feedback from the public” but that he would “respond accordingly” if the comments turned abusive and targeted his family.

In question video shows Rauf and his wife chatting to a few people. Shortly after, Rauf rushes across a hedge towards the group, despite a man trying to stop him. Before Rauf is led back across the hedge to his wife’s location, there is some pushing and shoving and heated shouts. The video finishes, but the yelling and finger-pointing hasn’t completely stopped.

Rauf stated on social media: “As well-known individuals, we welcome all types of public comments. They have the right to applaud or condemn us. However, I won’t think twice to react appropriately when it comes to my parent and my family. Regardless of one’s occupation, it is critical to treat people with respect and their families.”

The film seemed to have been shot in the USA. Pakistan defeated Ireland in their final group-stage encounter in the T20 World Cup in Lauderhill, but that victory wasn’t enough to advance them to the Super Eight round of the competition.

The PCB chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, tweeted on Tuesday night in response to the news, stating, “We strongly denounce the horrific event involving Haris Rauf. Such behavior directed at our players is totally intolerable and won’t be allowed. If the individuals involved do not promptly extend their apology to Haris Rauf, we will take legal action against them.”

Rauf is a Pakistani cricket player on central contract. In fact, his contract was torn up and then, earlier this year, resurrected under peculiar circumstances. Due to Rauf’s late-year cancellation of Pakistan’s Test series against Australia, the PCB terminated his contract on February 15 of this year. But on March 24, Naqvi called the incident “a misunderstanding” and gave Rauf his contract back.

Rauf was one of Pakistan’s more effective bowlers at the T20 World Cup, taking seven wickets at an economy rate of 6.73 in four bowling innings. Even though Pakistan finished their campaign with victories over Canada and Ireland, they lost to the USA (in a Super Over) and to India, thus they were unable to place in the top two of their group.
