Harry Brook Leads Northern Superchargers to 3rd Consecutive Victory In The Hundred

Harry Brook’s stellar performance propel Northern Superchargers to their third consecutive victory in The Hundred 2024, defeating the Manchester Originals by 14 runs.

In the northern derbies at Headingley in the Hundred on Sunday, the Northern Superchargers defeated the Manchester Originals two games to one. After Hollie Armitage’s team had triumphed earlier in the day, Harry Brook’s team defeated the opposition team over the Pennines by a margin of 14 runs.

Manchester Originals (Hurst 78, Santner 2-23) lost to Northern Superchargers (167 for 5; Brook 58) by a margin of 14 runs.

Matty Hurst scores 78 runs off of 45 balls, but the visitors were unable to build on their opening stand’s 90 runs.

The Originals won the toss and elected to bowl, which seemed like a wise decision given the heavy clouds overhead and the rain that had been falling prior to the match. Thus, it should come as no surprise that the Superchargers had a sluggish start at bat, losing a wicket to Fazalhaq Farooqi on the opening delivery of the game.

Graham Clark and captain Brook’s steady 50-run partnership rebuilt the innings. After that, Brook amassed an incredible 58 from just 33 balls when Scott Currie caught him low to the ground in the middle of play.

The home team’s innings had a solid middle section, but the Originals rallied late to hold the Superchargers to 167 for 5.

With a partnership of 90 runs, captain Phil Salt and Matty Hurst gave the Originals’ innings a very encouraging start. Hurst led the way with 78 points from 45, while Salt finished with 40 points from 27.

Unfortunately, some game-changing runouts and Mitchell Santner (2 for 23) led the winless Originals to a 128 for 4 surrender after trailing 90 for 1. Hurst’s departure left the Originals needing 29 from 13, but they couldn’t cross the finish line, dropping them to the bottom of the standings and moving the Superchargers up to third.

Meerkat Match Hero Brook stated: “We bowled incredibly well at the end to win, even though I thought they were the favorites going into the powerplay.

“We adhered to our mission even if we didn’t have the batting powerplay we desired. I felt that I didn’t need to smash many balls in the air because the outfield is so speedy here; instead, I was just attempting to pierce the gaps, and it worked. All I wanted to do was hang in there until the very end so I could put pressure on them. At first, I felt terrific, and happily, I found a few gaps.

We’ve always had a take-wickets mentality, but when we were 90 without loss and we didn’t get a wicket in the powerplay, we clearly had to give that some more thought. I then threw the ball to Adil Rashid and Mitch Santner, who both did a great job taking some vital wickets that enabled us to win.”
