Lionel Messi was not present for Inter Miami’s most recent MLS victory due to an injury.

Against Colombia in the second half of Argentina’s Copa America 2024 final in Miami, Lionel Messi was left writhing in agony. The Argentine captain was seen crying in the dugout after being forced to exit the field. But fortunately for him, Argentina won 1-0 to win back-to-back Copa America titles thanks to a late goal from Lautaro Martinez in extra time.

When Inter Miami defeated Toronto FC 3-1 on Wednesday night, Messi was once again in the spotlight as he took the lead in the Eastern Conference rankings. Messi was spotted in the Chase Stadium stands with his family after missing the game. In addition, he had a walking boot on his damaged ankle.

He won’t be present for his team’s upcoming Saturday game against Chicago. He sustained a ligament damage, and Tata Martino, the head coach, said he will be assessed every week.

“The club’s medical report is out and the information is that regarding the times, it will surely be evaluated week by week,” Martino stated. “We are going to see just how his recovery is without taking any kind of risk,” he stated.

For Inter Miami, Messi’s return will be essential. The Argentine will be thrilled with his new accomplishment, which he can now add to his collection along with the gold medal from the Olympics, the Copa America trophy, and the 2022 World Cup victory.

Messi has also been urged to issue an apology for the racial taunts uttered by Argentina’s players following their Copa America victory. Julio Garro, Argentina’s sports subsecretary, stated over the radio that “the captain of the national team must also come out and apologize for this case.”
