Paris Saint-Germain required a late goal to defeat Girona, who were new to the Champions League, while Manchester City struggled to a 0-0 draw with Inter Milan on Wednesday. In a rematch of the 2023 final that City won, Pep Guardiola’s team had won all four of their Premier League games this year, but they were unable to defeat Italian champions Inter.

Erling Haaland remained silent on a night when he was attempting to score his 100th goal for the English team, while Phil Foden scored their finest chance by firing straight at Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer after City lost Kevin De Bruyne to injury at halftime.

“Playing against a formidable opponent was quite intense. We were aware that we would not have an easy task because they are a top squad and accustomed to victory, as City defender Ruben Dias stated to TNT Sports.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan had a chance to win it for Inter when he scored with fifteen minutes remaining. Instead, City continued their winning streak in the competition with 24 games played, breaking Manchester United’s record of twenty-one games established between 2007 and 2009.

Under Guardiola, it is only the second time in 42 home Champions League games that City has failed to score.
Hakan Calhanoglu, an Inter midfielder, stated, “Our goal was to demonstrate that we’re not afraid to play here.”

In their encounter with Girona, a European debutant supported by the City Football Group who ran Real Madrid close for several months in Spain before to finishing third, PSG appeared to be forced to settle for a point as well.

But in the ninetieth minute, Nuno Mendes’ cross slipped between Paulo Gazzaniga’s grasp due to a goalkeeping error, giving the French champions the victory.

Mendes said to Canal Plus, “It was a difficult game; they’re a team that plays well with the ball.”
“I wasn’t expecting the goal. It passed through because the goalkeeper was present.”

Super-sub Gittens propels Dortmund

After coming off the bench to score twice in a 3-0 victory at Club Brugge, English winger Jamie Gittens was a major contributor to last season’s runners-up Borussia Dortmund, who were defeated by Real Madrid in the final.

Serhou Guirassy scored his first goal for Dortmund since joining from Stuttgart in the summer when he added a penalty in stoppage time.

Celtic made a grand entrance into the Champions League, defeating Slovan Bratislava 5-1 in Glasgow to win their first-ever match for the first time in 13 attempts.

Celtic took the lead thanks to a strong header from Liam Scales, and they added another goal through Kyogo Furuhashi early in the second half. Arne Engels then scored a penalty kick to make the score 3-0.

The Slovak champions, who advanced through four rounds of qualification, were leveled by a brilliant goal from Kevin Wimmer, but Daizen Maeda and Adam Idah goals sealed the victory for Celtic.

According to Celtic captain Callum McGregor, “It’s a fantastic night,” TNT Sports reported.
“I hope the fans had as much fun as the players and managers did. This represents the next phase of the group’s growth and development.

Bologna’s first-ever Champions League encounter ended in a 0-0 draw at home against Shakhtar Donetsk. Georgiy Sudakov of Shakhtar attempted an early penalty, but Lukasz Skorupski saved it.

With goals from Kaan Kairinen, Victor Olatunji, and Qazim Laci, Sparta Prague easily defeated Red Bull Salzburg 3-0. This was the Czech champions’ first victory in the actual competition since 2003.
