Novak Djokovic’s Quest for Paris Olympics 2024 Victory and Laureus Recognition
Novak Djokovic, renowned for his dominance in tennis with three Grand Slam wins in 2023 and a record 24 Grand Slam singles victories, now sets his sights on the Paris Olympics.
The World Sportsman of the Year title at the Laureus Sports Awards went to the Serb who concluded the year ranked number one in the world after winning three Grand Slams.
With three Grand Slam victories in 2023, Novak Djokovic had an amazing year that left his younger competitors scratching their heads. Even though the 36-year-old Serbian has now achieved a record 24 Grand Slam singles triumphs, he shows no signs of slowing down. He has failed to win the crown four times, so the Olympics in Paris will be his next major goal.
“I want to compete at the Olympics with my best tennis game. Who knows, maybe I’ll have another opportunity to compete in the Olympics. Only every four years do they visit. Djokovic, who won Sportsman of the Year at the Laureus Sports Awards in Madrid, recently stated, “I really wanted to play at least until the LA Olympic Games in 2028 but at this stage of my career you never know what can happen or how far I can go.”
In Beijing in 2008, he took home the bronze in his first Olympics, but he was unable to win the gold in the following three games. “I doubt that I would be participating if I didn’t believe that winning a gold medal was achievable. You have to have faith that life is full of possibilities. I’ll do my best to make the most of this opportunity.”
Based on his current form, Djokovic is expected to be the favorite in Paris in 2023. Last year, he took home victories in the US Open, Roland Garros, and Australian Open. Carlos Alcaraz defeated him in a memorable five-set match at Wimbledon. At the close of the year, he achieved a record-tying seventh ATP Finals victory and an unprecedented eighth year at the top of the rankings.
“In sports history, the Olympics are the most renowned and oldest competition. Representing Serbia at the Olympics is a great honor, and I sincerely want to stay well and fit,” Djokovic remarked.
Djokovic took home his sixth Laureus World Sportsman of the Year Award on a night to remember in the storied Palacio de Cibeles in the center of the city. Tom Brady, the seven-time Super Bowl champion, presented Djokovic with the trophy as he looked back on an exciting lengthy career that included rivals Rafael Nadal and Alcaraz.
“Winning my sixth Laureus World Sportsman of the Year Award is an immense honor for me. I remember winning it for the first time as a 24-year-old in 2012. It makes me very proud to be here after 12 years.”
“I won my tenth title and made a triumphant comeback to Australia in January of last year. This tournament holds great significance for me and has prepared me for an amazing year ahead of me. Without my amazing team and motivating opponents who constantly challenged me to be the best version of myself, I could not have accomplished this level of accomplishment.

Because it is a symbol of acknowledgment from the 69 elite athletes that comprise the Laureus World Sports Academy, this award is extremely meaningful. As a champion and supporter of Laureus Sport for Good, I consider myself incredibly fortunate to be among the greatest in sports history because I also think that athletics has the ability to positively impact the world.
The prestigious trophy was possessed by other outstanding performers of the year. Jude Bellingham was awarded the “World Breakthrough of the Year Award” in recognition of his extraordinary influence at Real Madrid. With four medals from the world championship and the World Comeback of the Year Award, Simone Biles had an incredible comeback in 2018. With its women’s world cup-winning football team named the “Laureus Team of the Year Award,” Spain had much to celebrate.
