Odisha FC Triumph 2-1 Against East Bengal in 2024 Indian Super League (ISL) season
Odisha FC won their second game of the 2024 Indian Super League (ISL) season, defeating East Bengal FC 2-1.
Tuesday’s game witnessed goals from Roy Krishna and Mourtada Fall, as well as a penalty kick from Dimitrios Diamantakos of East Bengal.
Odisha FC, the hosts, defeated East Bengal FC 2-1 on Tuesday to record their second Indian Super League (ISL) triumph. To overcome the penalty kick goal scored by East Bengal FC striker Dimitrios Diamantakos (45 4) in the first half’s extra time, veteran players Roy Krishna (22nd minute) and Mourtada Fall (69th) each scored once. With this setback, the Red and Gold Brigade suffered their second straight loss under new head coach Oscar Bruzon and their sixth in a row in ISL season.
The unstoppable Krishna, who scored his fourth goal against East Bengal FC in the competition in the 22nd minute, set the stage for the same.
Isak Vanlalruatfela, a rookie player for Livewire, had enough of room on the left side when he hit Krishna with a slightly long-range through delivery.
The attacker broke through the visitors’ defense because he was in the right position at the right time. With ease, he grabbed the ball, advanced, and outplayed East Bengal FC goalie Prabhsukhan Singh Gill to put the ball in the bottom right corner.
As the first half came to a close, midfielder Thoiba Singh stumbled and handled the ball in the penalty area, but Odisha FC managed to hold onto that lead. Diamantakos broke his goalless streak and scored for the first time in five ISL games after the referee gave East Bengal a penalty kick.
He put the ball past a fully extended Amrinder Singh with his left foot in the bottom right corner.
Lobera’s faithful lieutenants Fall and Ahmed Jahouh once again heeded his call as Odisha FC seized control of the game in the second half.
In the 69th minute, Jahouh’s perfect throw was delivered precisely to Fall, who headed the ball in to give his team the lead again. The pair needed only a free-kick on the inside channel of the right flank to change the tide.
When Provat Lakra was sent off for a second yellow card for a tackle on Jahouh in the 76th minute, things became much more problematic for East Bengal. They lost against a well-coordinated Odisha FC team because they were shorthanded, and they ended up taking three points.
