SA20 2025: South Africa’s Premier T20 Cricket League Set for January 9 – February 8
SA20 2025: South Africa’s Premier T20 League Returns with Exciting Fixtures.
The competition will conflict with other T20 competitions in Australia, the United Arab Emirates, and Bangladesh, just like the previous two editions.
The SA20 tournament in South Africa will hold its third season in 2025 from January 9 to February 8. The 34-game schedule for the six-team competition will resemble that of the first two seasons. A busy December-February league cricket schedule will see it either fully or largely overlap with the Big Bash League in Australia, the ILT20 in the United Arab Emirates, and the Bangladesh Premier League.
“Following two successful seasons, our plan is to continue to own the South African summer and provide an opportunity for everyone to enjoy some of the biggest names in world cricket, whether in packed stadiums or via the global broadcast,” Graeme Smith, the SA20 commissioner, stated in a “Preparations are already well underway, and over the next few months, our schedule, auction, and player announcements will be made public. We are eager to provide athletes and spectators with yet another amazing sporting and entertainment event.”
There could not be much time till the beginning of a planned ODI tri-series in Pakistan, with South Africa and New Zealand as the other two teams, when the SA20 concludes on February 8. There has been no formal announcement of the schedule for that series or the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan in February of 2025.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) prioritized the franchise competition above South Africa’s planned Test tour of New Zealand last year, sending a second-string squad for the away trip.
In the first season of 2023, CSA pulled out of a three-match ODI series in Australia against the SA20 and forfeited the chance to gain 30 points in the World Cup Super League table. This decision momentarily raised questions about CSA’s ability to qualify for the 2023 ODI World Cup, but ultimately proved successful.
Both SA20 seasons have been won by Sunrisers Eastern Cape, which is controlled by the India-based Sun Group, which also operates Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL. Last season’s losing finalists Durban’s Super Giants, Pretoria Capitals, Joburg Super Kings, MI Cape Town, and Paarl Royals will be attempting to prevent them from winning a hat-trick of titles.
