Salary Negotiations Delay BCCI’s Announcement of Gautam Gambhir as Head Coach- 2024 Updates
BCCI Updates 2024: The continuing salary discussions have caused a hurdle in Gautam Gambhir’s selection as Team India’s new head coach, postponing the official announcement by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Following the conclusion of the T20 World Cup 2024, Rahul Dravid’s term as head coach of the Indian cricket team came to an end, and the squad is still without a recognized head coach. For a five-match Twenty20 International Series, a reserve Indian squad is playing in Zimbabwe, with VVS Laxman, the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA), acting as a temporary head coach.
Two applicants for the position have previously been interviewed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI): Gautam Gambhir and WV Raman. The former is anticipated to accept the position.
However, as BCCI secretary Jay Shah has previously stated that the new coach will take over after the Sri Lanka series, there has been a slight delay in the announcement. The Indian Express reports that the continuing compensation negotiations between Gambhir and the board are the reason for the postponement of the official announcement.

The tenure of Dravid’s coaching team, which also included fielding coach T Dilip, bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, and batting coach Vikram Rathour, has come to an end. Once Gambhir’s appointment is formally announced, the board must move on with the employment of more coaches.
Additionally, it has been stated that the board intends to give Gambhir total control over the choice of selecting support personnel. Gambhir was an excellent opening batsman in his playing days, so it’s possible that he won’t even hire a batting coach.
Jay Shah, the secretary of the BCCI, had earlier declared: “Appointments for selectors and coaches would be announced soon. After conducting interviews and narrowing down the field to two names, CAC will make its final decision once it reaches Mumbai. While VVS Laxman is leaving for Zimbabwe, a new coach from the Sri Lankan series will be joining.”
Beginning on July 27, the Indian squad will embark on a three-T20I and multi-ODI trip of Sri Lanka.
