Sebastian Moss Claims Victory at Fighting Irish Classic, Climbs into PGA TOUR University’s Top 10

Sebastian Moss has made a huge jump, moving up eight ranks to take the No. 8 slot in the PGA TOUR University Ranking. 

He defeated Matteo Cristoni of Little Rock by one stroke to win the individual title at the Fighting Irish Classic, when he shot a 5-under total over the last two rounds. As the only team to finish below average, host Notre Dame secured the team title.

Moss began the season at No. 22, but he quickly rose to the top of the rankings thanks to his excellent performance. His accomplishments, which have propelled him into the top 10 of the PGA TOUR University Rankings, now include two individual victories and a third-place showing at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational. Ian Gilligan of Florida fell to No. 11 due to Moss’s rise in the rankings, one of two shifts in this week’s top 10.

Future PGA TOUR Events with Emerging Stars

This week in Las Vegas, Gilligan and Caden Fioroni of UNLV (who is presently rated No. 25) will be competing in the Shriners Children’s Open. While Gilligan hopes to better on his T40 performance from the 2024 Barracuda Championship, Fioroni will be making his debut on the PGA TOUR.

Other Performances

Tiger Christensen of Arizona and Jake Peacock of South Florida each rose two spots to No. 15 and No. 21, respectively, in the rankings following the Windon Memorial Classic. With Christensen finishing alone in second place, the Wildcats were able to win their first team championship of the year. Peacock, in contrast, has added a sixth-place finish to his record with back-to-back top-10 performances.

Gray Albright of Florida State also made a splash, turning in his greatest autumn performance at the Hamptons Intercollegiate with a T7 finish to bring the Seminoles to second place as a team. Albright moved up to No. 17 in the rankings as a result of his efforts.

Top Performers Announced for Williams Cup

Four of the top five players in the PGA TOUR University Rankings are anticipated to compete at the Williams Cup in Wilmington, North Carolina, from October 20–22, as the fall season advances. Just 42 points separate Brendan Valdes (ranked No. 1, Auburn) from No. 5-ranked Omar Morales (UCLA). Valdes will face off against David Ford (ranked No. 2, North Carolina), Josele Ballester (ranked No. 3, Arizona State), and Preston Summerhays (ranked No. 4, Arizona State). An exemption into the esteemed Hero Dubai Desert Classic will be awarded to the top player at the conclusion of the fall season.
