Toni Kroos to Retire After Euro 2024: Last Game for Real Madrid in UCL Final vs Borussia Dortmund
Toni Kroos, the legendary German midfielder, has announced his retirement from professional football after Euro 2024.
Having joined the team in 2014, Toni Kroos has made 463 appearances, making him one of the most decorated players in Real Madrid’s 120-year history when he leaves.
The 34-year-old German midfielder Toni Kroos declared on Tuesday that he will retire following this year’s European Championship. He also stated that his final Champions League match for Real Madrid will be against Borussia Dortmund in the final next month. “I will retire from professional football this summer following the Euro championship.
Real Madrid is and will always be my final club, as I have always stated,” Kroos posted on Instagram. “My life changed on July 17, 2014, the day I gave my presentation at Real Madrid. My football career, but more importantly, my personal life.
At the largest club in the world, it marked the beginning of a new era. This story ends at the end of the season, ten years later. I will always cherish this remarkable and prosperous decade.”
After joining the team in 2014, Kroos has made 463 appearances and will go as one of Real Madrid’s most decorated players with over 20 titles won, including four European Cups. Real Madrid has been around for 120 years.
The midfield player won two more Champions League trophies with Bayern Munich in 2013 and the 2014 World Cup with Germany in addition to his accomplishments with Real Madrid.

In February, after three years of retirement from international competition and in advance of the June–July European Championship held domestically, Kroos—who is in the final year of his Real Madrid contract—announced his return to the German team.
“I want to express my gratitude to everyone who trusted me and showed me love. But above all, dear Madridistas, I want to thank you for your love and affection from the first to the last day,” Kroos remarked.
Real also released a lengthy statement complimenting Kroos and his contributions to the team.
His exit follows his La Liga victory and comes before he might clinch a sixth Champions League title at Wembley.
“Real Madrid would like to express their gratitude and affection to Toni Kroos, a player who is already part of Real Madrid’s history and who is one of the great legends of our club and of world football,” the organization stated.
“Toni Kroos will forever remain in the hearts of all madridistas for the excellence of his football and for being a player who has given everything for this shirt, always representing the values of Real Madrid.”
