Iga Swiatek isn’t preparing for a lengthy vacation ahead of the 2024 off-season, despite her reservations about the demands of the WTA schedule.

The world No. 1 declared, “I don’t want to take a break,” following his quarterfinal exit from the US Open. It’s difficult. Although there is room for improvement, I’m adhering to the program. All I’m referring to are mandated competitions, which are subject to certain regulations.

“But barring an injury, I think I’m ready to play through November.”

Before their tenth head-to-head match, Swiatek was 0-6 in major quarterfinals against Jessica Pegula, the No. 6 seed (whom Swiatek now leads 6-4).

She initially brought attention to the regulations governing the amount of events participants must participate in two weeks prior to the competition starting. These regulations are important because of the additional scheduling strain brought on by the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

“I believe that players are aware of how absurd the situation is,” Swiatek remarked following her victory in the opening round at Flushing Meadows. “The schedule is somewhat demanding. I’ve talked about this in Cincinnati, for instance, and while some may say, “Oh, I don’t have to play so many tournaments,” the truth is that we have so many required tournaments that we essentially have to attend them all. As a result, we don’t have time to complete tasks or lead peaceful lives because we have to travel from one tournament to the next.

“The first tournament literally starts on December 29th, so we don’t even have time until the end of the year,” she continued. “Well, the season is definitely too long.”

Swiatek has competed 15 times in 2024 as of the US Open. She won her fifth Grand Slam singles championship at Roland Garros in June, and she has spent weeks at the United Cup and the Billie Jean King Cup. The 23-year-old will probably compete in at least two more WTA 1000 events in Wuhan and Beijing, China, provided her health holds up, before traveling to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, for the WTA Finals, where she is the defending champion and is expected to qualify this year.

Whatever happens at the US Open in the coming week, Swiatek will remain ranked #1 for the duration.
