Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma Welcome Baby Akaay: A Peek into Their Joyous Announcement
Virat Kohli, the former captain of the Indian cricket team, and his wife Anushka Sharma recently shared the joyous news of the arrival of their second child, Akaay, born on February 15, 2024.
The couple took to their social media platforms to make the heartwarming announcement, expressing their gratitude and seeking blessings from their well-wishers during this special time in their lives.
Virat Kohli posted on Social Media saying, “With abundant happiness and our hearts all of love, we are pleased to inform everyone that on 15th February, we welcomed our baby boy Akaay & Vamika’s little brother into this world!
We seek your blessings and good wishes in this beautiful time in our lives. We request you to kindly respect our privacy at this time. Love & Gratitude. Virat & Anushka.”
In response to the “personal reason” for his absence from cricket, Kohli made a huge statement. After being included in India’s squad for the first two Test matches against England, and rumored to be welcoming parenthood for the second time, Kohli withdrew from the series three days prior to the commencement of the first Test match in Hyderabad.
According to the BCCI statement, Kohli discussed his decision with India captain Rohit Sharma and the team management, emphasising that although defending his nation has always been his top priority, ‘some personal problems need his presence and entire attention.’ His replacement was announced as Rajat Patidar.
Explanation on Kohli’s absence
With every day that went by, the anticipation surrounding his pullout increased as the world remained silent and Kohli himself withdrew from social media. The world sighed with relief that all was well with the former India captain after AB de Villiers momentarily lifted the veil and revealed on his YouTube channel that Kohli was spending time with his family because he is expecting a second child.
But when the former captain of South Africa withdrew his statement a few days later, there was even more confusion surrounding Kohli’s extended absence. The BCCI put an end to suspicions that Kohli would not play in the current Test series, amid suggestions that he would return for the third, fourth, or possibly fifth Test.
Birth of Vamika
Vamika was born on January 11, 2021, marking the first childbirth for Virat and Anushka. Knowing the deadline, the former skipper Kohli played the first Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test in Australia in the second week of December 2020 before returning home to be with his wife. Ajinkya Rahane assumed leadership during his absence and guided India to what is possibly their most memorable Test series victory ever. That was a completely different situation because, in the former instance, Anushka’s pregnancy had been kept a secret the entire time, and the couple had declared it long before.
The famous couple celebrated their daughter Vamika’s third birthday last month. Virat and Anushka tied the knot on December 11, 2017. When it comes to Vamika, Kohli and Anushka have always asked for media privacy even since the birth of their first child. The pair asked that the paparazzi refrain from taking pictures of Vamika, and they were complied with.
However, in 2021, right before Vamika became one year old, her face was inadvertently made public by the media while India was touring South Africa. Following this, Anushka and Kohli expressed their displeasure with the incident. However, Vamika has avoided the spotlight ever then, and it is thought that Akaay will go the same route as her sister.
Meaning of Akaay
Turkish ancestry lends the Hindi name Akaay its Turkish origin. Its meaning, as given by the Google search engine, is “Illuminating light of the full moon.”
The name Akaay signifies “immortal” or “non-decaying” in Sanskrit. The couple’s appreciation of traditional Indian names and their cultural heritage are reflected in this unusual and meaningful name.
