Children of Diego Maradona Reveal Memorial Plans to Honor the Football Legend’s Legacy- 2024 Updated
The children of Argentine football star Diego Maradona have revealed intentions to create a foundation devoted to upholding his memory in addition to building a memorial site in Buenos Aires.
According to the official website, this tribute, called the “M10 Memorial,” is scheduled to open in 2025 in the well-known tourist destination of Puerto Madero and hopes to draw over a million tourists there each year.
Dalma Maradona, Maradona’s daughter, said the memorial serves as a space for supporters to show their love and respect for the legendary athlete. Dalma said during a YouTube livestream presentation on Thursday, “We want our father to remain close to the people’s hearts and fulfill the wish of those who wish to leave a flower in his honor.”
The memorial, which is more than 1,000 square meters in size, will be free to enter for Argentineans. Additionally, visitors can honor Maradona by having their photo displayed on a “heritage wall” on the site if they decide to donate to the Maradona Foundation. Co-chaired by Dalma and four of Maradona’s children from previous marriages, the charity seeks to honor Maradona’s football accomplishments and maintain his lasting influence on Argentine society.
A recent court decision authorized the transfer of Maradona’s remains from their existing resting place to a newly constructed mausoleum, marking a key step in solidifying his presence at this memorial. This modification will enable both locals and tourists from other countries to honor Argentina’s cherished football legend in the new location.
At the age of 60, Diego Maradona died in November 2020 while recuperating from surgery for a blood clot in his head. Just two weeks after being sent home from the hospital to a private home in Buenos Aires, he unexpectedly passed away from what was believed to be a heart attack. As an ongoing inquiry looks into any malpractice by Maradona’s medical team, the circumstances surrounding his death are still being closely watched.
By providing a dedicated area to memorialize and honor one of the greatest football heroes, this foundation and memorial highlight Maradona‘s enduring influence on the game and the Argentine people.
