Kylian Mbappe’s Paris Olympics 2024 Participation in Jeopardy Amid Pending Real Madrid Move
Kylian Mbappe, the star forward, may skip the Paris Olympics due to his impending transfer to Real Madrid, as per recent reports.
Mbappe’s departure from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) at the end of this season is imminent, with his sights set on joining Real Madrid. Despite his roots in Paris and his significant contributions to PSG, including becoming their all-time leading goal scorer, Mbappe has opted not to renew his contract, choosing instead to depart as a free agent.
Reports suggest that if either PSG or Real Madrid advances to the Champions League final, Mbappe’s official presentation will be scheduled between June 3-6. However, if neither team reaches the final slated for June 1, the presentation will be brought forward by a week.
In terms of international commitments, Mbappe is likely to be a key figure for the French national team at the UEFA Euro 2024, commencing on June 15. Simultaneously, the Paris Olympics, scheduled from July 26 to August 11, could also be on his agenda, pending a potential call-up for the prestigious event.
Real Madrid’s stance on Mbappe’s participation in the Olympics has been clear, with the club expressing reluctance to release him, along with other French players like Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni, and Ferland Mendy. L’Equipe, a French newspaper, indicated that Mbappe’s chances of featuring in the Olympics with France are diminishing by the day, given Real Madrid’s stance.
In an interview with GQ, Mbappe expressed his desire for Olympic participation but also acknowledged the circumstances, stating, “I have reached a point in my life and career where I no longer want to force things.” He added, “For any athlete, the Olympics have a special place, and I already wanted to go to Tokyo because I want to win everything and write my name in the history of the French team.”
