Arsenal 6-0 Rangers: Caitlin Foord Shines with Four Goals to Secure Champions League Clash with Rosenborg

Arsenal Women easily defeated Rangers Women 6-0, securing a vital matchup with Rosenborg for a spot in the second round in the UEFA Women’s Champions League qualifying round.

The most impressive player was Australian forward Caitlin Foord, who scored four goals, including an incredible volley. For the Gunners, Alessia Russo and captain Kim Little both registered goals.

For Jonas Eidevall’s team, Alessia Russo and Kim Little were also on target. They will now play Norwegian opponents on Saturday in an attempt to advance to the second qualifying round.

“A very good team performance,” stated Gunners manager Jonas Eidevall. A successful outcome as well. In the Champions League, we’ve really gotten off to the start we wanted. We are thrilled to be participating in the championship game on Saturday night, of course.”

At Meadow Park, Arsenal got off to a strong start and controlled the great bulk of the ball early on.

They would eventually take the lead thanks to Foord’s header from Mariona Caldentey’s cross, with the Ballon d’Or nominee picking up an assist in her team’s competitive debut.

Arsenal’s sole grievance after a mostly flawless first half performance is that they failed to extend their lead. Foord nearly doubled her total for the game, but Victoria Esson of the Rangers goal made a great save.

After the break, Rangers had a bright start, but Arsenal’s customary control of the ball swiftly undid it. Just before the hour mark, Foord would eventually score her second of the night, and the Rangers rapidly lost control of the game when Russo’s attempt cannoned into the top corner, resulting in a third goal scored seconds later.

Arsenal scored three goals in a short span of time, and ten minutes later, Foord’s incredible volley completed her hat-trick. A 29-year-old masterpiece in finishing, leading her team to a commanding performance.

Little’s performance in this match was commendable, and she finally got it from the penalty spot, scoring the fifth goal for her team before Foord pounced on a ball in the area to give Arsenal a six-goal lead.

Jo Potter, the manager of Rangers, had stated that she intended to put her players to the test against a team of this caliber, and the Gunners undoubtedly demonstrated their higher caliber.

Foord commented, “It’s my first hat-trick here in Arsenal colours, but to get four, that’s even better,” to Sky Sports News on her four goals. I’m content to go out there and perform my duties; getting a couple goals is a bonus.”

Boss of Arsenal Jonas Eidevall, stated:

“Not only will we [be encouraged by the outcome], but Rosenberg will too. The way they performed against Atletico Madrid will make them happy.

“Entry into this final will feature two assured teams. And from here on out, we have to rest, be ready, and then give it our all on Saturday.

“Every single one of our supporters is needed right here. We need to generate that energy once more on Saturday. Our supporters were fantastic tonight; they were the 12th player. And we will advance in the Champions League if we carry out that action.”
