Carlos Alcaraz Leads Spain to the Davis Cup Final 8 with a Stellar Performance
Carlos Alcaraz’s comeback was evident as he assisted in securing Spain’s spot in the Final 8 in the Davis Cup finals.
In Valencia, the world No. 3 easily defeated Ugo Humbert in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, encouraged by the encouragement of his teammates and the fervent home audience.
Is Carlos Alcaraz getting back on track to lead his team in the fourth quarter?
The world No. 3 gave a positive performance in Valencia on Friday, helping Spain advance to the Davis Cup Finals Final 8, encouraged by his teammates and the home crowd.
Following Roberto Bautista Agut’s impressive performance against Arthur Fils, Alcaraz easily defeated Ugo Humbert. The 21-year-old defeated the French No. 1 6-3, 6-3 by saving all six break points that he faced and hammering home 12 winners with his forehand.
Looking back on the win, Alcaraz’s team only had positive things to take away.
“I was completely focused on the level I played from the first ball to the last. I was playing tennis at an extremely high level. “It was definitely one of the best matches I played this year,” he remarked after admitting, “I was really intense.” I’ve needed these kinds of matchups over the past month. I’m rather pleased with how I performed today.
The four-time major winner, who was just out of the US Open second round by 74th-ranked Botic van de Zandschulp, also said that being around people improved his game. This came after a swing through the United States in which he lost his Cincinnati opening to Gael Monfils.
“I need to be with the team, the players, and the federation staff.” Witnessing their constant support during every point and every game… I require this environment, these types of games where I don’t feel like I’m playing by myself. The fact that my energy is increasing makes me very happy.
Alcaraz is scheduled to play his first Laver Cup match in Berlin the following week, staying in a team environment until he makes his Asian swing bid.
Fils was defeated by Bautista Agut, 2-6, 7-5, 6-3, earlier in the day. Together with Australia, Spain advanced out of Group B with his and Alcaraz’s victory.
The knockout stage will take place in Malaga from November 19–24. Last year, an Italian team led by Jannik Sinner defeated the Australians to win the title.
