New Zealand-England Test Series 2024: Christchurch, Wellington, and Hamilton Chosen as Host Cities
New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has officially announced that Christchurch, Wellington, and Hamilton will be the host cities for the highly anticipated three-match Test series between New Zealand and England scheduled for late 2024.
This announcement comes ahead of the full 2024-25 home schedule reveal, which will also feature visits from Australia, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan, with specific dates to be disclosed later this year.
The Test series kicks off at Hagley Oval on November 28, followed by the second Test at the iconic Basin Reserve starting from December 6, and concluding with the third Test at Seddon Park commencing on December 14. These matches hold significant importance as they form part of the prestigious World Test Championship.
Notably, New Zealand emerged victorious by a narrow margin of one run in their previous encounter with England at Wellington last year, a match that captured global attention.
NZC’s decision to unveil the Test series dates early was driven by the high local interest and expected demand from England supporters, reflecting the competitiveness and excitement surrounding these matches. The allocation process for hosting these Tests was highly competitive, reflecting the anticipated strong presence of England supporters.
Scott Weenink, CEO of NZC, highlighted the increasing popularity and viewership of Test cricket in New Zealand, attributing it to the successful conversion of interest into ticket sales and record viewership numbers. He expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming series and extended a warm welcome to both the England team and their fans, as well as local supporters.
While these Test matches against England mark the centerpiece of New Zealand’s home season, they are preceded by an extensive overseas tour, including fixtures against Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and India.
Looking ahead, New Zealand is set to host just two home Tests in the 2025-26 season, with the West Indies being the visiting team. The remaining fixtures of the 2024-25 international home season, including visits from Australia and Sri Lanka women’s teams, and Sri Lanka and Pakistan men’s sides, will be finalized and announced later this year.
