The parents of India’s skipper, Rohit Sharma, were present at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday to celebrate the team’s T20 World Cup victory. Thousands of supporters flocked to the streets of Mumbai to see the team’s open bus victory parade during the T20 World Cup, creating a festive scene. As if crowds swarming the streets weren’t enough, one fan scaled a tree to get a better look at the players.

Through a sea of supporters, the triumph parade began at Marine Drive and ended at Wankhde Stadium. Friends and family of the players were also present at the special felicitation ceremony, which was held in a crowded stadium.

When Rohit approached the president’s box at Wankhede Stadium to greet his parents, his mother had to cancel her doctor’s appointment so that she could see the lavish festivities. It was a heartfelt moment.

Poornima, Rohit’s mother, thought it was an important occasion to miss. She kissed the captain of the World Cup-winning team profusely, and the cute moment went viral on social media.

Rohit dedicated the win to the whole country at the felicitation ceremony. “The entire country is entitled to this trophy. At the event, Rohit remarked, “We want to dedicate it to our fans, who have waited for 11 years, along with all the players who have represented the country.”

Shortly after Virat Kohli declared his retirement from Twenty20 Internationals, Rohit too said goodbye to the game’s most condensed version.

Rohit is now the highest scorer in the format with 4231 runs in 159 games. In T20 internationals, he holds the record for the most hundreds (five). He has won two T20 World Cups: the current one in 2024 as captain, and the first in 2007 while competing.
