Juventus Triumphs Over Como in Serie A Opener; Atalanta Shines in 4-0 Victory
Juventus defeated Como 3-0 in their Serie A opener, capping off an outstanding debut for the team under Thiago Motta.
With doubles from newcomers Marco Brescianini and Mateo Retegui, Atalanta thrashed Lecce 4-0 on Monday, securing the Europa League title and a tremendously successful start to their Serie A campaign.
On Thiago Motta’s Serie A debut with the Turin giants, Juventus easily defeated Como 3-0 on Monday, while Atalanta easily dismissed transfer rumors by crushing Lecce 4-0. Promising youngster Samuel Mbangula, a surprise starter on the left flank, and Timothy Weah put Juve and Motta ahead early in their match against promoted Como, who were playing their first top-flight game in more than 20 years. Andrea Cambiaso’s goal in stoppage time sealed the victory.
“Como are a good team and we had the right attitude tonight, when we had the ball we did really well all throughout the match,” Motta told DAZN.
At the Allianz Stadium, Juve had numerous opportunities to win by a wider margin against Como, who was outmatched that evening.
For Juventus, Dusan Vlahovic had an especially bad night up top as he struck the post in both halves and had a seemingly good headed goal disallowed just after the break.
The Serbian forward couldn’t understand why his goal was disallowed, although Cambiaso had gone offside earlier in the play, which kept him from scoring.
After leading Bologna to the Champions League upon his arrival in the off-season, Motta has already made Juve’s style of play more visually appealing than it was under Massimiliano Allegri.
That’s even though Juve is still a work in progress because several of Allegri’s favorites, like Federico Chiesa of Italy, have been benched to make room for players who are thought to be more suited to Motta’s style of play.
In their upcoming matches against Cagliari and Udinese, Cesc Fabregas’s Como—an ambitious team supported by tobacco giant Djarum—will have a better idea of their chances of remaining in the division. The club is busy in the summer transfer window.
“Today served as a wake-up call. “We must improve,” Fabregas told DAZN.
“I’m positive there was a quality difference because when they took the ball away from us, we gave up far too many easy passes. They were devastating. That is a matter of personal quality more than strategy.” With a “Perfect” debut, Atlanta
fresh boys A tumultuous summer marked by long-term injuries and prominent players clamoring for transfers was followed by a tremendously encouraging start for Europa League holders Atalanta at Lecce thanks to Marco Brescianini and Mateo Retegui.
Only arriving from relegated Frosinone on Friday, Brescianini scored the first goal on a rebound ten minutes before halftime, then finished with aplomb in the 66th minute to seal the victory.
The 24-year-old’s goals crowned and concluded an almost flawless away effort, with Italy’s Retegui scoring a goal with a thunderous header before the half, then winning and then scoring a penalty shortly before the hour.
Originating from a little town outside of Bergamo, the home base of Atalanta, Brescianini said, “It’s better than even I could have imagined.” “I’m really happy to be wearing this jersey and I hope to repay the faith the club and fans have shown in me.”
Since then, top defender Giorgio Scalvini and Gianluca Scamacca of Atalanta have suffered significant injuries, and several other players have also been ruled out.
In the meantime, Teun Koopmeiners and hat-trick hero Ademola Lookman, who were both dropped in an attempt to leave before the summer transfer window closed, were not available for coach Gian Piero Gasperini.
“This was not what anyone was expecting,” Gasperini said to Sky Sport. “I have to play it now by ear… Although I’m not sure what will occur over the next ten days, it is our responsibility to construct as much as we can.”
Before the game began, Atalanta CEO Luca Percassi did, however, leave the door open for a reunion with the desired combination, as Lookman, a forward from Nigeria, was reportedly being courted by Paris Saint-Germain.
Percassi told Sky Sport, “Our idea is that we not let our big players go for the first time in our history.” “We can’t wait for this transfer window to close.”
