Kylian Mbappe, the Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) star’s ongoing financial dispute with the team has taken a new turn after he turned down an invitation from the French football league (LFP) to mediate it.
The main point of contention in the dispute is the €55 million ($60.6 million) that Mbappe believes PSG owes him; the club maintains that the 25-year-old waived the sum in August 2023.
The group that surrounds Kylian Mbappe announced on Wednesday that they had turned down the French Football League’s (LFP) offer to mediate the conflict between the France captain and Paris Saint-Germain regarding outstanding salaries and bonuses for the forward.
According to Mbappe, PSG owes him 55 million euros ($60.6 million), which the 25-year-old agreed to waive in August 2023.
The three remaining months of his pay, the signing bonus the Real Madrid striker was anticipating in February, and a “ethical bonus” for the same period are all included in the amount he has sought.
Attorneys for both sides convened early on Wednesday following Mbappe’s case being referred to the LFP’s legal committee. Mbappe joined Madrid this summer.
The league then made a mediation offer.
A statement from Mbappe’s team said, “The eventuality of a mediation was mentioned this morning,” to AFP.
“The player’s representative denied this idea throughout the meeting.
“A mediation would be useless to establish a lack of payment that can be seen from a simple analysis of the player’s payslip.”
The LFP told AFP it would notify Mbappe and PSG of their judgment in the matter on Friday.
PSG had welcomed the proposal earlier in the day.
“Paris Saint-Germain is very pleased with today’s two-hour hearing before the commission,” PSG said.
“The club emphasized that, after receiving exceptional benefits from the team throughout his seven outstanding years in Paris, the player has often stated in public and private that he must honor these pledges.
“The commission insisted on mediation between the parties, which Paris Saint-Germain has been requesting for many months, in light of the club’s oral and documented arguments.”
