NBA fines P.J. Tucker of the Clippers $75,000 for making public trade demands

In response to remarks made by P.J. Tucker, a forward with the Los Angeles Clippers, “expressing a desire to be traded to another team,” the NBA fined Tucker $75,000 on Thursday.

Tucker, although healthy, has only participated in 15 games this season, none since November 27. Although Tucker was a part of the three-team transaction that sent guard James Harden to the Clippers at the beginning of the season, his worth may have come more from his payroll impact than from his on-court contributions. Tucker began the season with the Philadelphia 76ers.
The 38-year-old was upset that he wasn’t dealt before the trade deadline and vented his fury on ClutchPoints. In July 2022, he committed to a multi-year deal with the 76ers. He has a $11.5 million player option for the following season in addition to his $11 million salary this one.
Regarding the player option, Tucker told ClutchPoints earlier this week, “That’s not on the table.”

In reference to his standing with the squad, Tucker remarked, “I feel like I shouldn’t have to go through this.” “I am not here by request. I didn’t demand or beg for a deal in order to be here.

In 14.4 minutes over 12 games, he averages 1.2 points and 2.4 rebounds for Los Angeles.

In his thirteen NBA seasons, Tucker has been a member of seven different teams: the Toronto Raptors (2006–07, 2017), Phoenix Suns (2012–17), Houston Rockets (2017–21), Milwaukee Bucks (2021), Miami Heat (2021–22), 76ers (2022-23), and Clippers. In 867 games (659 starts), he averages 6.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 0.3 blocks.

Before the Clippers’ Wednesday game in San Francisco against the Golden State Warriors, they sent guard Bones Hyland and Tucker home. The two are anticipated to be in the squad for the Clippers’ next scheduled official practice on February 21 following the All-Star break.
Prior to the NBA trade deadline that occurred last week, Tucker voiced his dissatisfaction. On February 8, he wrote, “All this s– is an f—- joke,” on his Instagram story.

Tucker stated to ClutchPoints in December, “I feel like I still got a lot to contribute to a team to be able to win, whether that’s here or somewhere else.” “I am aware of my value. I am aware of my contributions. I’m aware of what I brought. I am aware of what value I can still add. And in light of that, I hope to be able to approach a strong team and be of assistance to them.
