New York Ramps Up Security Measures Ahead of India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup Showdown
New York authorities are stepping up security measures with the much-anticipated India vs Pakistan match in the T20 World Cup 2024 drawing near at Eisenhower Park stadium.
Despite reports of potential threats, officials stress that there’s currently no substantiated public safety risk.
In response to reports of threats against the India vs. Pakistan match scheduled for June 9 of the T20 World Cup 2024, security will be heightened at the Eisenhower Park stadium in New York. The governor’s office issued a statement in which it stated that while they are keeping an eye on the matter, “there is no credible public safety threat at this time.”
From June 3 to June 12, Eisenhower Park Stadium, some 25 miles east of Manhattan, will host eight matches, including the highly anticipated India-Pakistan encounter. The governor of the state of New York, Kathy Hochul, stated that her administration has been collaborating with law enforcement for months to guarantee the seamless operation of these competitions.
“I have also directed the New York State Police to engage in elevated security measures, including an increased law enforcement presence, advanced surveillance, and thorough screening processes,” she stated. “Public safety is my top priority and we are committed to ensuring the Cricket World Cup is a safe, enjoyable experience.”
Although the ICC stated that security will be “robust” throughout the tournament, including at the New York venue, the authorities have not yet discovered any supporting evidence to support the purported threat.

“Everyone’s safety and security at the event is our number one priority, and we have a comprehensive and robust security plan in place,” an ICC official stated. We have good links with the authorities in the nations where we are hosting, and we constantly observe and assess the world environment to make sure that the necessary precautions are taken against any threats to our event.”
India will play four games in New York: on June 5, they will play Canada; on June 12, they will play the much-awaited match versus Pakistan; and on June 5, they will play the USA. There is a warm-up match versus Bangladesh scheduled as well. After being given some time off, Virat Kohli is yet to reunite with the team, although India has started training since their arrival in the US on Tuesday.
The Cricket West Indies and the International Cricket Council (ICC), who will co-host the World Cup with the United States, gave assurances earlier this month that every precaution is being taken to guarantee the safety of both players and spectators.
