An elite list of Batters with 200 in ODI Cricket: Tendulkar Showed the Path

Double Hundreds in ODI: Sachin Tendulkar became the first ever male player in the history to reach that glorious milestone in the year 2009 against South Africa in Gwalior.

With 264 runs, Rohit Sharma is the ODI’s top individual run scorer. The only player in One-Day International matches with three double hundreds is Rohit.

List of Double Hundreds in ODI Cricket

It used to seem unreal to score a double century in a One Day International (ODI) match. However, on December 16, 1997, against Denmark, Belinda Clark of Australia became the first ever cricket player to accomplish this feat with a total of 229* runs.

As the first hitter from Sri Lanka to reach a double hundred in a men’s One Day International (ODI) match, Pathum Nissanka made cricket history. In addition to reaching this milestone, his outstanding performance of 210* broke the previous record for Sri Lanka’s highest individual score in One-Day Internationals, which had been held by Sanath Jayasuriya for more than 20 years. Nissanka’s accomplishment, which is a monument to his extraordinary talent and skill on the cricket field, is a momentous occasion in the history of Sri Lankan cricket.

The previous highest score before Sachin Tendulkar’s First ever double Hundred in ODI history was 194. It was achieved by Pakistani opener Saeed Anwar against India in Chennai in 1997, and it was subsequently matched by Charles Coventry of Zimbabwe, who went undefeated on 194 against Bangladesh in Bulawayo in 2009.

Till date, 11 players have scored 13 Double Hundreds in ODI cricket including 5 Indian batsmen.

Quickest and First Ever Records Holders in ODIs

    • John Edrich of England scored the first fifty runs in an ODI match against Australia. On January 5, 1971, he scored 82 runs at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne.

    • The first cricketer to score a century in an ODI was Dennis Amiss of England. On August 24, 1972, he earned the first-ever century (103), in the history of the One-Day International.

    • With 264 runs, Rohit Sharma is the ODI’s top individual run scorer.

    • Ishan Kishan holds the record for the fastest double century in One Day Cricket. Ishan just broke the record by hitting the fastest century in ODI history. Chris Gayle had previously held this record. At the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittogram, during the third and final ODI match of the series against Bangladesh, the guy scored an incredible double-century off just 126 balls. He followed in the footsteps of Virender Sehwag, Rohit Sharma, and Sachin Tendulkar as the eighth batsman in history to reach the milestone.

    • In the 1984 ODI, Vivian Richards became the first player to score 180 or more points. However, Gary Kirsten broke this record on February 16, 1996, when he hit 188* runs against the United Arab Emirates.

    • The first player to reach the 190+ score in an ODI was Pakistan’s Saeed Anwar. Up until December 1997, Anwar’s record of 194 runs versus India on May 21, 1997, stood. Belinda Clark, an Australian cricket player, broke this record. At the MIG Club Ground in Mumbai, she struck an undefeated 229 runs against Denmark, breaking the 200-run barrier. Shubman Gill has became the fifth Indian player to achieve a double century in ODIS with his spectacular innings of 208 runs.

    • Shubman Gill, an Indian batsman, blasted five sixes in five deliveries and earned a double century in the recent bilateral ODI series between India and New Zealand. He is also the fastest Indian cricket player to reach the 1000-run mark in One-Day Internationals.

This concludes the list of all ODI cricket double hundreds. I hope that Indian batters will soon score many more double hundreds.
