Scottie Scheffler’s FedExCup 2024 Triumph Marks a Historic PGA TOUR Season

Scottie Scheffler Captures FedExCup Title: A Season to Remember

The top-ranked golfer in the world, Scottie Scheffler, wrapped up a remarkable season at the TOUR Championship by winning the coveted FedExCup. This triumph, which was his first in the FedExCup Playoffs championship match, completed an incredible year in which he won seven PGA TOUR titles and an Olympic gold medal in Paris. Here is Scheffler’s analysis of his historic victory at Atlanta’s East Lake Golf Club.

It’s really enjoyable. It’s been a long week, and we’ve worked very hard to get here. I’m just a little fatigued right now, so I’m not sure how to express myself. Having this trophy in your possession at last is a truly unique feeling. I made a concerted effort to live in the now during the entire week, and I did a decent job of it. Mentally, I think I handled it much better.

Carrying a lead into many rounds is uncommon, and having a seven-shot lead after the opening round is something I will probably never experience in another event. I get the impression that this competition is distinct from others in that it lasts longer.

I feel like I’ve lived nearly a lifetime in just one year, looking back. It always comes back to my faith, in my opinion, and I believe that’s what keeps me focused and grounded. I’ve been in the lead in the FedExCup points list for a while, so it’s good to come in somewhat ahead of schedule and be able to complete it correctly.

I try not to dwell too much on the past or too much on the future, but I remember that two years ago, it was difficult to lead into the final round with a significant lead and then lose because I didn’t play to my best. It was disappointing since I had a bad week the previous year as well. It’s therefore rather nice to enter the game leading the third time and be able to seal the deal.

Despite winning the PGA TOUR Player of the Year award the past two seasons, I haven’t taken home this trophy. At the end of the year, especially when you’re starting the tournament ahead of others, it leaves a terrible taste in your mouth. I may have put too much pressure on myself the past few years to perform or do whatever it is, but this year I did a great job of just mentally committing to the task at hand, had a great week, and managed to end it in the appropriate manner.

Teddy (Ted Scott) did an excellent job of keeping me focused during the final round. I obviously had the two bogey holes on seven and eight, after getting off to a strong start. I managed to swing the tide significantly when I made a great shot into nine for a birdie.

Teddy consistently makes insightful remarks for me. He’s an excellent caddy because of this. I don’t think a day goes by that he doesn’t make me laugh when I need it or provide me some wise counsel. When it comes to the course, he is truly my greatest asset. Without him in my luggage, I don’t know if I could accomplish any of this. He always manages to put me in the proper mood by saying the right thing at the right moment.

I kind of glanced at Teddy like, dude, I don’t know about this; this isn’t looking so hot right now, and he gave me a wonderful pep talk on the back of eight green. After that, I was able to start things off with a beautiful iron shot. It significantly altered the round’s momentum.

It’s been a fantastic year all around. I’m pleased with the outcome. I try not to think about it too much, but in the end, winning tournaments is a wonderful feeling that we all strive for, so it’s truly special to be able to have as many wins as I had this year.

I’m excited to return home and recuperate for a week or so before beginning my preparations for the Presidents Cup, which is an event I truly want us to win at Royal Montreal. It’s been a really exciting and enjoyable year.
