Vinicius Jr Deserves Ballon d’Or: Carlo Ancelotti and Florentino’s Claim After Real Madrid’s UCL 2024 Triumph
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has boldly asserted that Vinicius Jr has done everything necessary to win the Ballon d’Or this season.
Vinicius Jr concluded his season on a high note, scoring the decisive goal in Real Madrid’s Champions League victory against Borussia Dortmund at Wembley Stadium, London. The Brazilian winger has emerged as a top contender for the Ballon d’Or, thanks to his stellar performances with Los Blancos, contributing to their triumphs in the Champions League, La Liga, and Spanish Super Cup.
Vinicius Jr, aged 23, scored the second goal for Real Madrid in the final, securing the club’s 15th Champions League title with a 2-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund. Despite a challenging first half where Madrid struggled to register a shot on target, they dominated the latter stages of the game. Dani Carvajal broke the deadlock with a header from a corner at the 74-minute mark, and Vinicius followed up with a stunning goal nine minutes later.
In the first half, Dortmund controlled the game, creating several opportunities but failing to convert, leaving the scoreline unchanged. However, Madrid’s second-half resurgence proved decisive.
Carlo Ancelotti, after securing Madrid’s 15th UCL title, firmly stated, “Vini Jr deserves the Ballon d’Or. I’ve no doubts.” Club president Florentino Perez echoed these sentiments, confidently backing Vinicius for the prestigious award, saying, “Vini Jr should win Ballon d’Or. There is no doubt.”
Perez also provided an update on veteran Luka Modric’s future, expressing optimism about the Croatian maestro continuing with the team for another season. “I think Luka Modric will stay with us; I think he will continue for one more season,” said Perez.
This season, Vinicius has been in sensational form, scoring 24 goals and providing 11 assists, making him a prime contender for individual awards. Madrid’s second-half performance saw them come alive, with Dortmund’s keeper Gregor Kobel saving a Toni Kroos free kick and Carvajal narrowly missing with a header.
Kroos’s assist was a fitting farewell for the Germany international midfielder, marking his final game for the club. Kroos, along with Carvajal, Nacho, and Modric, equaled Real Madrid legend Francisco Gento’s record of six titles, further cementing their legacy.
