Arsenal Sends Strong Title Message with Brighton Win, City Triumphs Over Crystal Palace
Arsenal showcased their championship ambitions with a commanding 3-0 victory over Brighton and Hove Albion, solidifying their top position in the Premier League standings. This win, coupled with Manchester City’s 4-2 triumph over Crystal Palace, intensifies the thrilling title race.
Leandro Trossard, Kai Havertz, and Bukayo Saka all scored goals to guarantee Arsenal’s 10th straight league victory.
In the intense Premier League title race, Arsenal made a major statement on Saturday by defeating Brighton & Hove Albion 3-0 to take the lead following Manchester City’s 4-2 victory at Crystal Palace.
When Liverpool plays Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday, they will be under intense pressure to respond as they started the day atop the standings.
Bidding to win an English championship for the first time since the 2003–04 campaign, Mikel Arteta’s team leads Liverpool, who have a game remaining, by 70 points after 31 games. City, the defending champions, have 70 points as well.
Arsenal’s far greater goal differential may be important in a match this close. Arsenal’s serious title aspirations were dashed by a 3-0 home loss to Brighton in May of last year, but they have improved greatly since.
They seemed unstoppable from the moment Saka scored a penalty in the 33rd minute, and goals in the second half from Havertz and former Brighton player Trossard had the away supporters cheering in the rain on the south coast.
“Very happy, great work,” Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, said to Sky Sports. “The fact that Brighton hadn’t dropped a game at home since August pretty much tells it all. We performed quite well today and required that caliber.”
Arsenal has scored 20 goals while scoring zero in their last five away league games, so City and Liverpool will be aware that Arteta’s team is not going away. Earlier at Selhurst Park, Manchester City was dealt an early scare when Jean-Philippe Mateta scored.
However, City easily won as Kevin De Bruyne scored twice, Rico Lewis and Erling Haaland also found the net. For Palace, Odsonne Edouard secured a belated consolation.
It is identical to all previous title races. Every game has to be won,” the 19-year-old Lewis stated. “There’s three teams in it and we have to be the strongest team.”
De Bruyne scored his 100th goal for the team on Wednesday, putting on a classic performance. He and Haaland were rested for the 4-1 victory over Aston Villa.
We wouldn’t be able to win this without him. You talk about managers, but guys like Kevin make this game easy,” remarked Pep Guardiola, whose team is vying for the Premier League crown for the fourth time in a row.
“He has been one of the best players in City’s history.”

Aston Villa’s 3-3 draw with Brentford at home cost them points in the race for fourth place. Ollie Watkins and Morgan Rogers had put Villa up 2-0, but Brentford responded with three goals in nine minutes through Mathias Jorgensen, Bryan Mbeumo, and Yoane Wissa, before Watkins scored his second to give the home team a point.
“It’s frustrating, we lacked that big team mentality where they kill games off which is disappointing,” Watkins stated.
Villa leads fifth-place Tottenham Hotspur by 60 points, but Tottenham has two games remaining, starting with a home match against Nottingham Forest on Sunday. Luton Town responded to win 2-1 at Bournemouth, securing a critical three points in their attempt to stave off relegation.
Third-from-bottom Luton won for the first time since January, moving to 25 points, tied with Nottingham Forest in 17th place, thanks to a late goal from Carlton Morris.
In addition, Everton secured a crucial win as they defeated 19th-place Burnley 1-0, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin capitalizing on a careless mistake made by Burnley goalkeeper Arijanet Muric.
For Everton, who are four points above the relegation zone, it put an end to a 13-game losing record in the Premier League. With a 1-0 victory over Fulham, Newcastle United increased their chances of making it to Europe, while West Ham United defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 to maintain their seventh-place standings, with James Ward Prowse’s spectacular corner kick deciding the game.
