Rajasthan Royals Face RCB in IPL 2024 Eliminator: Eyeing on the Glory

In the final league match of IPL 2024, rain in Guwahati denied hosts Rajasthan Royals a chance to finish in the top two. At roughly 10.50 p.m. local time, the game was called off without a ball being bowled. As a result, RR finished third with 17 points at the end of the league phase after suffering four straight losses.

After successfully chasing down 215 against a severely weakened Punjab Kings team earlier in the day, Sunrisers Hyderabad also had 17 points, but they managed to stay in second place because of their higher net run-rate.

The first qualifier in Ahmedabad on May 21 will pit Pat Cummins’ SRH against Kolkata Knight Riders, who are currently atop the standings. The Royals will face a fierce Royal Challengers Bangalore team, who is currently winning six straight games, in the Eliminator the following day at the same location.

KKR’s players may need to perform exceptionally well in the postseason, given that their previous two league games were called off without a ball being played. especially Phil Salt’s possible replacement, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who hasn’t yet played an IPL match. Midway through March, he played his final game with the bat for Afghanistan.

The Royals are equally concerned about their foreign players. Shimron Hetmyer, their finisher, was originally considered fit for Monday’s match but ultimately did not make it to the starting lineup or the Impact substitutes bench. RR captain Sanju Samson hinted that they may have needed to make some last-minute roster adjustments.

Since failing to complete a tight pursuit against SRH on May 2 with Rovman Powell, Hetmyer has not played. As a kind of like-for-like substitute for Jos Buttler, Tom Kohler-Cadmore had a rather tough IPL debut on May 15, managing 18 off 23 balls against Punjab Kings in Guwahati under significantly drier circumstances.

The most of Monday night was spent with the Guwahati surface covered by covers, but the rain eventually stopped long enough to enable the toss for a seven-over shootout, which was set to resume at 10.45 p.m. local time. Nevertheless, the rain came again to bring a soggy conclusion to the league phase shortly after KKR won the toss and elected to bowl.
